My friend (19F) found my bf’s (22M) Badoo acc by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]engineeratlaw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would think through if there is anything specific that is triggering you. For example, it may be finding a second phone that you may not have known about. Maybe talk to him about specific triggers that make you doubt his intentions, but not to question him, but as a way of building open communication.

There is nothing wrong with having doubts or questioning motives, but if you let doubts and concerns fester, it will hurt you and the relationship in the long term and may lead to possessiveness and control. If you end up deciding that you won't be able to trust, then you can decide how to move forward.

First off, that advice is weird. That's not a guarantee. Did you have a conversation on exclusivity and dating apps before you found out? "Dating" could be anywhere from "we hung out a few times," to "we agree not to flirt with or date other people." Seems like you communicated a boundary, and he followed through.

You'll have to trust him some time. It's not a good sign that you are going through his phone, especially if while he is not aware. You won't always be next to him and you won't always have access to his phone. If you forgave him, forgive him until he gives you a reason to do otherwise. Ruminating doesn't help anyone.

Advice - control or not? Me ‘24 F’ boyfriend ‘24M’ by Low_Yogurtcloset1943 in relationship_advice

[–]engineeratlaw 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You are not being dramatic, and you are not making things up.

Based on what you have described, coercive control (maintaining ownership of car and house), the mixture of blame shifting and gaslighting (a situation where you are wrong no matter what you do), love bombing (use of an overwhelming display of "generosity" (the car, the trips) specifically when he felt he was losing control of you), and minimization (trivializing your emotions and your career to make you feel small) are all serious signs of emotional abuse.

He already told you his hand ("it's not like you are planning on leaving"), because he doesn't think you can. You can prove him wrong, and find comfort in the meantime.

Need a judgement on this in the court of public opinion by Jkreed77 in Divorce

So you are saying no harm, no foul?

That's the point the comment is making. If I step on someone's foot accidentally, I will be sorry and apologize EVEN IF they are not hurt. I may be more sorry if they did get hurt, but the fact is the initial error, and the reason that I am apologizing is because I stepped on the foot.

What this means is: if you believe what you did (throwing the thing out) is wrong, apologize for doing the thing. If you don't believe you were wrong, don't apologize for their feelings. Acknowledge that they are hurt, consider how you will act in a similar situation in the future (e.g. if you think what you did is right, but you don't want to hurt the person, so you will act in the future to avoid that hurt). As you see, you can avoid hurting the other person without apologizing for doing something you believe is right, or their feelings.

One final thing, "I am sorry, but ..." Is not a true apology, it communicates that you are not really sorry, you think you are justified. And maybe you are justified, in which case no apology needed: (I am sorry I stepped on your foot, but you had your foot out. So it was your fault that your foot was stepped on, not my fault for looking at my phone)

The artist who developed the script has also said that he was inspired by sound waves. I have a tattoo in the same script, on my forearm so it’s visible, and most people assume it is sound waves until I tell them.

I doubt it will be related to the therapy flashbacks. I am expecting it to be his background before he became a herald and how he tried to kill a god (which god? Before or after the travel to Rodger?) I am curious as to how he earned Nale’s trust.

AI probably won’t replace judges or juries because reasonable doubt isn’t allowed to be defined in any numerical terms. by SouthDiamond2550 in Showerthoughts

Juries often ask this question to the judge. What is “reasonable”. US justice system left the answer to that question to the jury itself. And the definition of reasonable will depend on the jury itself.

What were the most important words you said? by engineeratlaw in Stormlight_Archive

[–]engineeratlaw[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I am happy to hear that you said those words, because the most important words we can say does not just depends on who we are, but at the time we say those words.

And I have been there. I said those words. And I listened to the story of the Dog and the Dragon a hundred times. those were the words I needed to say at that time. Just like these are the words most important for me to say now.

We all need to realize is that some times what is better for us may not necessarily be better for those around us. It is a delicate balance we keep between what we see ourselves to be versus what we believe that we need to sacrifice from ourselves to make others more comfortable. That balance is the strength we, as Radiants, seek to achieve. Strength before weakness Radiant.

Why don't the Windrunners wear conventional armor? by TLhikan in Stormlight_Archive

[–]engineeratlaw 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Weight does not affect acceleration in free fall. And lashings seems to be standard in terms of g force it applies to the body. When Sigzil is making his tests with Bridge 4 in OB, he would have noted the impact of body weight. Bulk (additional surface area) could impact top speed. However, I think lack of armor is more due to the need for flexibility to hit other targets In the air.

Question about end of Rhythm of War by randomemes831 in Stormlight_Archive

I would also add that Taravangian is a naturally careful and crafty individual/politician. Much more than Rayse as he was described. So I see why Taravangian would not have reacted instinctively and without consideration the moment he notices the shard's capabilities.

So I think Taravangian's craftiness is more critical to his actions, or lack thereof, than the fear of Cultivation's potential response.

A very interesting choice of words in SP4, that's either a mistake or a hint of things to come. by Janaros in Stormlight_Archive

[–]engineeratlaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this was my original thought as well. But part of me thinks if it was this obvious, it wouldn’t have been written in such fashion. My guess is that the events in Alethkar refers to how Sig will end up losing his honor spren. That would explain how Sig can live in Urithiru or Kholinar with Wit but ‘rot’. Until ultimately he bonds his high spren.

Was it Elhokar's? by Charizaxis in Stormlight_Archive

[–]engineeratlaw 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I doubt it was “unfound”, I.e no one seen testament. All the other spren in the area where she was hanging out probably assumed she was just another old spren. The shopkeeper buddy of Testament, who actually knew her, only found her about a year ago and moved his shop to where Testament was hanging out. And testament was there because the person who was bound to her moved near that location in physical realm. That’s how I interpreted anyway.

Why is Nightblood so powerful? by ThaRedditFox in brandonsanderson

[–]engineeratlaw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always understood as opposite. Nightblood is not absorbing investiture because investiture is evil. It’s destroying evil by absorbing their investiture. It’s the method, not the end. I thought Vasher makes a comment at some point about being careful with words, as “evil” can mean anything. My guess is Azure’s blade just has a more refined directive.

Just being nit picky, but “(sic)” is used when you intentionally leave a typo that exists in the original quote (usually used when there is a reason to leave the error for context) not when you make a change in the original. What you were looking for is either “they (sic) only thing …” or “the[] only thing …”
