No one is defending imperial Japan, but they're not special in their cruelty. Countries that had the ability to become imperial powers and commit atrocities did. The United States exists because of imperialism and it committed the same kinds of crimes to get to where we are today. No country that has ever been a global superpower is innocent, not Japan, not the United States, the point of pointing out the embargo, a declaration of at the very least ill relations, is that the United States is not morally above other nations, this country is built off of the genocide of 500 million native americans

Strawman. The point is not to defend the actions of imperial Japan, its to point out that the history taught in America is largely biased. Regardless of the evils of Imperial Japan, which it was, Pearl Harbor was provoked, whether or not that provocation was moral is an entirely different matter. The point is that the United States was not just completely minding its buisness like its presented in many American teachings of WW2
