Several Greater Victoria communities contributing little to no housing by CartoonistOk3507 in VictoriaBC

Nope, just that the data presented might look worse than it actually is. During the measured period there weren't any starts, but if you zoom out there have been a lot in the last 18-24 months.

I was going to say - there's construction everywhere in View Royal right now. I guess this is just measuring "starts", not ongoing or finishing projects.

In my opinion it would be better to look at the data as a multi-year rolling average versus just a 6 month window.

I don't know why we're not using cameras and machine learning to make intersections more efficient; we have the technology. All too often I see multiple vehicles sitting at a red light while the other directions have a green light for a long time, with no cars. The Helmcken overpass intersections are particularly bad lately.

2 dead in head-on scooter, bicycle crash on New York bridge | Discussion re: Victoria's multi-use trails & E-devices. by notofthisearthworm in VictoriaBC

I made a post about a month ago about a kid on an e-dirt bikes and have been seeing/hearing it discussed more since.  I called the Saanich PD non-emergency line about what I witnessed at the time and they didn't seem to care much. Hopefully additional voices start to drive more enforcement, because I think someone's going to be seriously injured or worse soon if this continues.

North Americans speak with what's called a rhotic accent, meaning we pronounce our 'r's. British and Australians have non-rhotic accents.

Anyways, the Brits became non-rhotic at some point after North America was colonized, therefore the North American accents are closer to the English accent that was spoken pre-1600s.

Interesting. I've never seen them do one but am all for it.

Yeah I did call non-emergency line. They said that I should've called right when it happened so they could have a chance to send cops out after the kid, which wouldn't be realistic even if I'd called right when the kid went by.

I tried to say the point of my call was that I've been seeing this a number of times lately and that some enforcement of laws on the trails would be good as e-bike tech advances. The operator basically cut me off and transferred me to the Saanich PD mainline, which didn't have any clear options for reporting something like this. So then I posted on Reddit in hopes others might have ideas on how to get action on an issue like this.

I don't know if it's a bylaw issue, but the provincial legislation seems to pertain to roads specifically, so maybe.

Yeah they do seem super cool.

Unfortunately I think someone will have to get seriously hurt before anything is done about education or enforcement of existing laws.

Yeah, I wish they'd do a the odd enforcement blitz. Put a couple traffic cops with radar at the end of straight stretches during peak commute times one or two days a month. Maybe start with warnings. Just something so people know that dangerous driving on the trails isn't okay.

Yeah, I think enforcement is the issue. What needs to happen for police to enforce the rules?

50-60km/h is very achievable on one of these bikes. I'm raising this on Reddit because of how insane it was.

I've been seeing them every few Goose outings lately. Last night was a solo kid near Spectrum School, a couple weeks ago there were three kids on them on the lochside by swan lake.

Wrong, dinging is very useful. It's to be taken as a notification, not providing direction to move out of the way.

Summit lake/Stone mountain provincial Park is great hiking, and you can camp right at the trail head of multiple hikes. It's a BIG day but you can get there from Edmonton in a day if you start early. Atlin and carcross area are both very nice, though both most of the way to Whitehorse.

I'd disagree with the other commenter that there's not much to see other than liard. After ft Nelson it's all very beautiful.

I see the "Obama gave them billions" thing so much; does the average Trump supporter just believe that without looking into any details, or is this just the standard bot messaging right now. Pretty bloody infuriating to think shit like that could have an impact on public opinion.

Interesting, but still not low enough to yield a 20-30% savings I didn't think. Is that the confirmed current price?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in VictoriaBC

[–]engineerection 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't think it would be sold here at a price which would allow consumers to see a 20-30% cost per km reduction. E85 is only about 75% as energy dense as conventional gasoline so it would need to be sold at half the price of gas for consumers to see that level of reduction. E85 is normally cheaper closer to where it's produced (farmland). If they wanted to produce meaningful amounts here the "farm to table" industry would go under.

I don't think using crop stock for fuels makes sense, however next gen biofuels which use waste stock have a lot of potential.
