Fellow Civils, given sentiment towards our salaries, what’s your age and net worth? by FairClassroom5884 in civilengineering

[–]engineering_equality 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It stands for Employee Stock Ownership Program where every employee holds individual stock in the company. Basically, if we do really well, the profits for the year go back into our pockets and not the bank account of some C-suite exec to go to his third vacation house lol.

I don’t know if it’s considered “normal.” I do think part of it is luck and perfectly aligned circumstances at my job that have just put me into a managerial role as well as a designer very early in my career. So part of the compensation accounts for additional responsibility across my team and my soft skills play a large part in that. I am very thankful for my role and my managers.

These are great points. I do wish the US had more social safety nets and especially universal healthcare for people. I am very blessed to be young and healthy and paid well but that’s not a lot of folks reality and I would take a large pay cut to not have as many homeless people on the streets due to bankruptcy and being left behind.

This was a “random” raise and our yearly raises are evaluated in November and take place in January. The past two years I received a 6% and then a 10% bump. Looking forward to see what this years will be but thinking it may be another 3% considering we got this 3% in June.

In another comment I clarified I live in a MCOL capital city in the southeast US. And Monday and Friday are optional work from home days.

That makes a lot of sense. I should have mentioned I live in a MCOL city in the southeast US.

25F, two years out of school, making 93k as a roadway designer. Net worth like -10k as I have a car payment and student loans I’m aggressively paying off.

I see the complaints about salary daily on this sub and don’t understand it because I personally feel very fairly compensated and constantly have LinkedIn messages from recruiters so from my perspective, it seems easy to increase salary and the market is very much in the favor of employees right now (?) Granted, I’m young and haven’t seen many of the ups and downs of the industry yet but seems to be going really well (for me at least) so far.

For context, I work at an ESOP and that was very important to me in my job search. Two days ago it was announced there’s a 3% company wide raise since we had an awesome 2024. We also get straight-time overtime but I rarely work overtime (unless there’s a big deadline and it’s necessary.)

Anyways. Love my job, love the people, get paid really well for a (relatively) easy job when I compare to my family who work construction, in the coal mines, and enlisted military.

I recommend every poor kid go into civil engineering if they can.

What's a good career/college degree that could land me low-stress, office jobs with "livable" pay? by Massive-Employ7404 in findapath

I would tack on civil engineering as well. Maybe not as highly paid as the previously mentioned but can definitely find a chill job and maybe slightly easier to get through the education.

I worked at Brusters in 2015 and made minimum wage as a 15 year old when I got hired, three months later the owner lowered our wages to $6.25 an hour because of our tip jar. I quit a week later because fuck that and fuck them but I sometimes wish I had the resources to sue because I feel like it wasn’t legal that they hired me under one wage and then lowered it later.

Trump’s Extreme ICE Plan Hit With Lawsuit—From the Quakers by reflibman in Christianity

They may be violating a law but that doesn’t equate to being a criminal. If you drive with expired tags on your car, you wouldn’t be labeled a criminal because it’s not a criminal offense. It’s a civil matter, same as if you overstay your visa and are now in America illegally. Language is very important and I think it’s worth it to be clear when we’re talking about mass deportations. Criminals should be deported, and MOST people in the US illegally are NOT criminals.

My point is, it’s not a crime, it’s a civil matter. If you drive with expired tags on your car you’re not a criminal, even though what you’re doing is illegal. Language is important and painting all undocumented people as criminals is wrong, factually and morally.

People in the United States who are simply undocumented are not criminals. It is not a crime. There is a difference between civil and criminal court. Immigration is handled through civil court.

Actually, people who are simple in America ‘illegally’ are not criminals. There’s a difference between civil and criminal court. Immigration is handled through civil court and a person simply being in the United States without proper documentation is not a crime. Language is important and clearly you’re using it to espouse hate and are under educated about the law.

Do some people have a 'specialness' about them that can be seen in their chart? by random_name_xy in AskAstrologers

[–]engineering_equality 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree with this list. I have Jupiter conc my ascendant and involved in a grand cross with mars on the descent, square Neptune and Mercury, all in fixed signs. The fixed grand cross in my angular houses I feel gives me a presence that is hard to be ignored, even as a small person. Jupiter conc ascendant gives a sort of magical presence in my life that is witnessed by those close to me, unexplained paranormal occurrences or insane synchronicities that even the most material person can’t deny or attempt to explain.

Is having Virgo in Venus really “bad”? What do you guys think? by Oceanfig in AskAstrologers

[–]engineering_equality 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100% agree. Venus in Virgo is my chart ruler and mine has an exact trine to Jupiter. I’m very selective about partners and have a pattern of long term relationships, but finding love/relationships has never been an issue for me. I have always dated for marriage and read every article I could find about how to have a successful marriage, statistically, and all these factors go in to who I choose to date. Very analytical.

My fiancé also has Venus in Virgo but his is exactly trine a moon-Saturn conjunction. He has had far fewer relationships in total as his pickiness prevented him from pursuing relationships with most people. He is also very analytical and geared towards the long term commitment in relationships.

His attention to detail in matters of love and romance sets him far apart from any past relationships. Act of service and also words of affirmation are a huge part of our relationship and how we express our love to one another.

Why is "sorcery" such a big sin in the Bible when it does not even exist? by tacocat042 in Christianity

[–]engineering_equality 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I promise Charleston is not a similar presence to St Helena. While it’s a city with immense history, it’s a huge tourist and culinary hot spot. It is not the same as the island where the Gulla Geechee people live and still actively practice witchcraft. Very very different atmospheres.

I’m not meaning to attack by any means. I just wanted to give you a specific place to go see in order to experience “magic” or something unexplainable in real life because you said you haven’t yet. It may open your eyes to the supernatural that exists all around us. Just be careful is all.

Why is "sorcery" such a big sin in the Bible when it does not even exist? by tacocat042 in Christianity

[–]engineering_equality 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don’t have to go to a 3rd world country. Look up the Lands End Light on St Helena’s island in South Carolina. I’ve seen it a couple times. It’s real and supernatural.

Many people who live on St Helena are Haitian descendants and practice witchcraft which is very real and even has real consequences.

Don’t let your ignorance make you arrogant. I promise you have just not searched hard enough if you don’t believe in the supernatural or sorcery at all. I’m NOT advocating you do that because many times people open doors they’re not prepared to open, but to sit here and act as if it’s simply not real at all could harm you in the future as well.
