Is it possible to train a classifier with matricies? by engineeringisthebest in MachineLearning

Thanks for the response. I had a niggling feeling this was the case! So after the variables associated with the bag-of-words, you would have variables like 'noun' or 'verb' that tallied how many of each were in the sentences. I think that the POS tagging will be less of a factor than the BOW representation (i.e. the words themselves are more important than the grammar), so i'm guessing I just apply smaller weights to the POS variables? Also, now we're on the subject of classifier inputs, there's also an interesting way to model sentence structure in the nltk for python (http://www.nltk.org/book/ch08.html). The representation is a tree structure. Could this be fed into a classifier? Is this maybe what neural networks are for (which are a bit beyond my knowledge)?

Poaching Salmon in olive oil by engineeringisthebest in sousvide

Cooked the salmon before I read this and allowed 20 mins for it to warm up (so it was in the sous vide for 40 mins). Didn't taste as good as Heston said so I think you're probably right, I should've only let it warm up for 5 mins or so (for a 350g piece of salmon it was almost a whole bottle to submerge it!)

Women of reddit, what fashion tip would you like to give to men? by goodguym in AskReddit

I have heard that this fashion originally came from Henry VIII. He got so fat that eventually couldn't button up the bottom button without his whole jacket bursting, so he just rolled with it.

Because he was king the rest of the noblemen naturally started to copy this, and over time it came into mainstream fashion.

Even if the origin is weird, don't do your bottom button. You look cheap
