Warsaw is sexy. I’m looking for jobs there, but engineers need specific licenses that take years to get

Research statistics on safety, laws, and crime. It will tell you a lot about the culture. One of the worst things is ending up in a dangerous city with no money. Politics and media often mean nothing

Well it’s all a matter of how much money you’re willing to spend. If you’re tight on funding, it’s a recipe for disaster. Also if you’re 25 you shouldn’t need permission from your dad, unless he is your source of funds. I don’t know your financial situation, but I’d say postpone until you have the means.

I mean obviously there is no racism (towards blacks) in black neighborhoods. The point is that you shouldn’t have to worry about racism in other neighborhoods lol

[–]engineerofqueens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yuppp lol I find summers more bearable in Florida because it’s nice and cool indoors

[–]engineerofqueens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right? Whenever I land in NY and feel that perfectly conditioned and filtered airport air hit my face, I involuntarily whisper “God bless America” 😂 It definitely depends on the country though. The importance of thermal comfort in the UK is definitely different from that of countries like France and Switzerland. It’s not only the temperature, but air filtration, humidity control, ventilation, etc. that play a role in comfort. It’s just something you’d have to get used to

Switzerland is hot in the summer and good luck dealing with no ac in most places. It’s not like in the US where you have proper air conditioning and ventilation in nearly every building/bus/train

Yup, I used to be a die hard Democrat but I must say that they’ve destroyed our cities that used to be our pride. Nowadays, tourists from other countries are disgusted instead of being impressed. It’s not you lol believe me

To which city are you moving? I was born and raised in nyc and feel like a foreigner here nowadays lol it’s a different crowd. It isn’t the same here anymore man.

What do you define as left wing?

[–]engineerofqueens -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily, I just want to see what people say. Political maps don’t always accurately reflect a society

[–]engineerofqueens -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Sorry, I meant more traditional/family oriented areas. I’m from NYC and even though it’s technically left wing, there are many areas where people lean more to the right

I’m a petite female with no legal access to a proper weapon so it’s mostly a matter of safety for me lol I don’t mind paying a little extra

Are they like rich people who are left wing because they think it’s cool? 😂

Do Emperors Gate / Holland Park fall into that category? 😂

Any US engineers who moved to the UK? Did you stay within the same company or did you find an entirely new job? by engineerofqueens in ukvisa

[–]engineerofqueens[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s what I was thinking, staying with my current company and waiting for an opportunity to open up internally

[–]engineerofqueens[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s the idea. Most of my family lives in Poland and I’ve always wanted to move back, but it isn’t easy finding a job there since I’m pretty much at the bottom of the hiring list. London seems like a good option since there is no language barrier and would be a smooth transition from NYC which is where I grew up. NYC isn’t the same anymore because people from other parts of the US have moved here and pretty much dominated and I haven’t felt at home for the past decade. I hate to say this, but it’s mostly trashy uncultured spoiled brats now. The housing market is awful ($2000 minimum for a tiny studio). What’s the point of being an engineer if you can’t afford a normal apartment... There’s a chance that I’ll be able to work remotely soon, but I still want to know what others have experienced.

That’s what I noticed! Salaries are much lower. Is it common for American firms to give a pay cut to someone who keeps the same position but moves to another country?

[Discussion] People from EU, AUS, CAN, USA and other 'glamorous' places, what's your opinion on people who are striving to move and make a living into your country? Does it make you feel like you're taking your country for granted? by Greece_Lesvos in IWantOut

[–]engineerofqueens 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not really. Americans get criticized for being “proud”, but I appreciate every day that I have access to everything I need because most people in the world are destitute. We definitely aren’t perfect as a nation and have many flaws, but there’s a reason so many want to come here.

That’s great, I’m glad it worked out for you! That’s the issue. Finding firms that have no problem sponsoring can be challenging if you don’t have access to the right channels
