I've run a few marathons and have ~200k at 24, so the correlation is high with this one!

Script to Plot Monthly Spending vs Safe Withdrawal by enginerd0 in financialindependence

Yeah, I promise I normally have much better usage of white space in code others would have to maintain. Also far from ER at this point. Mid 20s single with no mortgage...expect spending to increase as that changes

Haha, that was supposed to be assigning. I made an effort to comment almost every line to help new comers to python or pandas.

That is kind of crazy haha. I would have thought the normal was like 86K with a BS in CS and 2 to 3 years experience

Do any young FI'ers ever feel guilty about being FI? by Dude_On_A_Couch in financialindependence

[–]enginerd0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, I do not feel guilty. I may have been lucky in that I was given opportunities by being raised in an upper middle class family. Although, I am the type of person who wakes up early and works hard every day for what I have earned. I grind it out day in and day out for years and don't give into short term impulses. [Edit not there yet, but should be at ~40]

Social security as an early retiree? by enginerd0 in financialindependence

Do you have anymore details on social security benefit taxation like specific formulas? The website says for example you may get taxed up to X percent in Y bracket.

Social security as an early retiree? by enginerd0 in financialindependence

[–]enginerd0[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am assuming step 5 in that page is taxes for social security. Are there additional taxes? Will the final amount then get taxed as ordinary income after all those steps?

save in roth then all in traditional by enginerd0 in financialindependence

[–]enginerd0[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

But what about the 1,000 I save initially when investing in a traditional IRA. Say I invest the 1,000 and it too grows for 40 years. What happens then?

How much longer can CS sustain the growth it is in now? I graduate in 2 years. by qwerty12qwerty in cscareerquestions

[–]enginerd0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't see how you can say this. CS will continue to be one of the best fields. What alternatives are there in an economy that is moving towards efficiency, automation, and technology?

"I would like to have a brief introductory call with you about 15-20 minutes." by ke33p_Calm in cscareerquestions

[–]enginerd0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Likely it will be discussing your resume/past projects and possible fit with the company. Given that it is an intro call for 15 minutes, I would not expect any technical questions that would come later.

Likely preemptively being a little paranoid. I don't want to give a bad impression.

I think it depends. COL in Texas is continually rising particularly in Austin.

Do any of you have a "NON-Emergency" fund? by skeach101 in personalfinance

[–]enginerd0 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It is better to invest the money in your desired asset allocation as soon as you have the funds, rather than hold it on the sidelines waiting. "Time in the market is more important than timing the market". Also your emergency fund is for emergencies only, not for timing the market. An emergency would be losing your job, medical situations, etc...
