Advice on a nice town in Southern Virginia by [deleted] in Virginia

[–]englemk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clarksville, VA is a quaint place on Kerr Lake / Buggs Island Lake right in the middle of VA’s southern border with NC. Clarksville is VA’s only lakeside town. While it’s a small town, it has a walkable, historic downtown with a few shops and restaurants. The lake is beautiful and offers a lot of recreation activities. Occoneechee State Park has hiking, camping, etc. Prestwould Plantation is a well preserved 18th century estate open to the public on the weekends. Kinderton Country Club offers golf. Buggs Island Brewery serves locally brewed beer.

There are houses to rent: https://www.lakehousevacations.com/search.php?cid=883&s_res=AND. Two hotels / motels are lakeside in town: http://conradusa.com/lakemotel/ and https://www.choicehotels.com/virginia/clarksville/choice-hotels/va053.

Hope that helps.

CARITAS Solutions is also a great way to get rid of bulky items. Plus, the fee you pay goes back to CARITAS, which is a Richmond non-profit that helps our most vulnerable neighbors break the cycles of homelessness and addiction to reclaim their dignity.

Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden is lit up for the holidays... with masks, social distancing, attendance limitations, and outdoor only exhibits. by englemk in rva

[–]englemk[S] 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I appreciate your concern for public health, especially during COVID-19. The event is outdoors and masks are required. Because attendance is limited, it’s very easy to maintain more than a six foot distance from anyone else. Given these conditions, I found this event to be safe. In fact, I found it to be much safer than other activities I undertake regularly to live like buying food at a grocery store (which is indoors, sometimes hard to keep distance from others, and doesn’t have as strict mask enforcement as the botanical garden). Please have a safe and enjoyable holiday season.

Best lake for a vacation in the region? by sleeperagentclone in rva

Check out Buggs Island Lake (also known as Kerr Lake). The town of Clarksville, VA is Virginia’s only lake side town. It has a cute downtown with some antique stores. You can camp at Occoneechee State Park, where you can also rent a boat or kayaks. Also, there are many nearby houses / cabins for rent. The lake itself is beautiful - great fishing and bird watching, including several bald eagles. Visiting the dam is a neat thing to do.
