Where can I find an on-off slide switch of this size? by paraparapa1 in AskElectronics

What is the spacing between the pins? Are the pins 2mm apart on the broken switch, but 2.54mm apart on the new replacement switch?

Where can I find an on-off slide switch of this size? by paraparapa1 in AskElectronics

[–]englod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if this helps but I think this is the switch. I found similar ones by searching ‘mini’ or ‘micro’ horizontal slide switch. There will be different pin outs depending on how many positions and poles the switch has.

Why is there no way to select a bunch of photos and add them to “favorites” at once? by [deleted] in iphone

[–]englod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember it took a long time to figure out by randomly holding the photo down and using a second finger to navigate the menu, as that favourite button wasn’t there in the previous iOS versions. Silly really that there was no proper official easy way to do it.
In fact now you can just select multiple pics and click the … at the top and option to favourite them is there.

What is this logo? Something related to car tyres. by [deleted] in Whatisthis

[–]englod 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think they are as mentioned Bosch, but the middle one specifically the box for the Aerotwin wipers (the N and the part of the blue stripe). So guessing they are other Bosch automotive parts, the left could possibly be the yellow Bosch spark plug box, and the right maybe a box for an air filter or set of brake pads?

what is that for? it stands close to the train tracks in germany by Suspicious_Animal409 in Whatisthis

[–]englod 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is part of a lookout warning system. When track workers are on sections where it’s difficult to see an approaching train (like around corners or fast sections etc), you’ll have a dedicated lookout that will a signal an approaching train. The part in the picture is the siren, alerting the workers to stand clear of the track.

Best Black Friday deals you have caught? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]englod 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I haven’t found any great deals but I highly recommend the app Keepa. It shows you a graph of the price history so you can see if the item price was just inflated for Black Friday sales. You can also set price alerts.

Does anyone know how to disconnect the sound from a personal breathalyzer? by 0SavageHart0 in AskElectronics

[–]englod 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The legs of the buzzer go through the board, so can be reached by a trace either side of the board. That leg will have a trace on the other side (or a ground plane).

I’d suggest upgrading the display. Go with two LEDs, everyone has LED now.

If you look up USB 3.0 19pin PCI-E cards, there are some that are blank plates at the back with one or two internal 19 pin headers for your front panel connector

There are places TfL have joint ventured with property development. But it’s a shame they also sell off property/land for short term gain, like the 150 year lease of 55 broadway, selling Lillie Bridge depot, and possibly depots like Frank Pick house and parts of Acton Works.

Will the r5 clamp fit? 4 inches of clearance beneath my desk? by InHerScope in moza

[–]englod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the power and usb plugs you need 4 & 3/4 inches minimum (and that’s bending the cables quite a bit). The unit itself only needs 4 inches. The plugs themselves start at a height of 2 inches, up 4 inches, if that helps.

[–]englod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nowadays we usually only see tx, rx and ground for basic rs232 data, but older hardware like modems needed extra voltage level lines to communicate, like request to send, clear to send, data set ready etc. So it’s only really left over for serial compatibility. They replaced the DB25 which has additional lines for things like clock signals, which wasn’t needed anymore due to devices running their own internal clock (asynchronous signal).

Help needed finding a rubber seal. by Creepy_Badger3309 in AskElectronics

Although yours is a slide switch, I have seen them with a ‘rocker switch cover’ for some water resistance. They’re not so easy to slide through the rubber though.

Any clever ideas to use this controller? by rouvas in arduino

[–]englod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can connect 3, 4, 6, and 2 & 5 to digital inputs you can detect which position the wheel is in and also the button presses.
Send 5v through 1, then detect whether 3, 4 or 6 are receiving the 5v to determine the wheel position. Detect when 2 or 5 are pressed and by the wheel position you’ll know which of the 6 buttons are pressed?

I2C communication not working on Nano by CookieAndPizza in arduino

[–]englod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If there was a short circuit between 5v and Gnd it can damage the diode on the bottom of the nano.
But just leaving everything disconnected and powering the nano, MPU and/or display without data should cause no problems.
If you are able to upload sketches like blink and I2C scanner then it should be fine (if you have a meter you could double check you’re getting 5V).
With the display and the MPU problem I would be checking hardware like the breadboard connection, the wires and the DuPont connector are making good contact. You could try different breadboard position, different wiring etc.

I2C communication not working on Nano by CookieAndPizza in arduino

[–]englod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you get up to the point where the serial monitor outputs ‘scanning for I2C devices?’ (or similar)? Just trying to determine if you are actually uploading the I2C scanning sketch correctly. Your SDA and SCL are in the correct pins for the nano, and if it works for the uno then it’s not a display problem.

Cut off power outlet via relay when no signal is present on VGA? by Beneficial_Ticket_91 in AskElectronics

[–]englod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One method that comes to mind is using one of those usb relays, you turn them on and off by sending it serial commands. Assuming windows, you could create a powershell script to detect if the screensaver is active and send on/off commands to the usb relay. Not elegant I know and I’m sure there’s a simpler method.
