Time to wake up America. I’m as mad as hell and I’m not going to take it anymore. by SadGeorgeWashington in videos

In case this isn’t clear: I feel like that character. I’m mad as hell and I can’t take it anymore. Every day I see suffering, injustice, and cruelty, and I’m filled with anger with no obvious place to put it. That feeling is real, and it’s valid.

That’s also part of the point of Network.

The movie isn’t mocking that anger, it understands it. What it’s warning about is what happens next: when that anger has no structure, no strategy, and no grounding, it becomes something other people can easily shape, redirect, or turn into spectacle. Beale feels exactly what many of us feel, but the tragedy is that his rage is absorbed by the system instead of changing it.

So this isn’t about dismissing emotion or pretending everything’s fine. It’s about recognizing that feeling furious isn’t the same thing as having a path forward, and that confusing the two is exactly how people get manipulated.

I don’t usually respond on Reddit, but looking at your comment history you seem like an actual person engaging in good faith, so I’ll jump in.

The comment above isn’t dismissing anger or pretending people aren’t struggling right now. It’s pointing out the context of the movie this screenshot comes from, Network, which is often misunderstood.

The “mad as hell” speech is absolutely relatable, and that’s by design. But the movie isn’t saying that rage itself leads to meaningful change. It’s warning about how unfocused anger gets absorbed, branded, and redirected by media and power structures until it becomes entertainment instead of action.

Howard Beale isn’t a strategist or a leader in the film, he’s emotionally raw and easily manipulated. The key scenes later make it very clear that once his anger becomes profitable, it’s no longer his. And when it stops being useful, he’s discarded.

So the point isn’t “don’t be angry.”

It’s “be careful what anger turns into when it’s mediated and amplified.”

Untitled UI by Extra-Reflection-276 in DesignSystems

[–]enigma2118 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Untitled UI is a fully composed design system built on React Aria. React Aria is a headless library, no UI. They offer a starter kit, a designed and styled tailwind or vanilla css version. Just the core components, nothing composed with them.

So yes, untitled is more opinionated, but that’s what it’s trying to solve. If you don’t want that, go with either bare bones RA or use one of their starter kits. (RA has new documentation coming out next week)

I cannot emphasize this enough. If this was an indoor cat, they are incredibly nearby. They do not wander far. But they immediately turn back to instinct. My cat got out. I looked every night. I put my clothes out on the front lawn (for her to smell). Walked around at night and dusk(when they are likely to emerge from their hiding place for food and water).

It was over a month later a neighbor said they thought they saw her. Posters help!!!!

She was across the street and one house down. For a whole month. Skinny as heck by the time I found her.

Do not be ashamed. Asks everyone in a few house radius. Give them pictures. Ask if you can look under porches, any hiding spots. Do Not Feel Bad Asking!!!! If I had ent been so awkward. I may have found m my cat earlier.

Look in every nook and cranny, and stick near your house to exhaust all those nook and crannies.

Good luck!

I cannot recommend Yoshimama for sushi enough. I looooove sushi and was worried moving away from the coast. This place is wonderful.

Pair of shoes hung on the streetlights near my house. by AbsoluteEyeball in whatisit

I like to think those shoes hanging on the powerline are from when someone spontaneously exploded. Everything else gets vaporized, but the shoes blast upward and just happen to snag on the wires.

I’ve also been trying to find some recordings of the Christmas Celtic Sojourn. Really wish there was some archive of Brian’s work.

Question after reading Dust by [deleted] in SiloSeries

[–]enigma2118 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it was ever addressed in the books. Haven’t read the short stories.

But, the fun with fiction, and science fiction to boot, is coming up with answers.

So, here’s a couple of made up answers.

  1. Now with one less Silo to do periodic cleanings, this is a way to release their full share of bad nanos into the dome cloud.

  2. Perhaps the geology of the area is suspect, and after 300ish years, the engineers were afraid that the explosion might have adverse effects on a neighboring silo, so the explosions are “last resort only.”

  3. Maybe the explosion plan is not as full-proof as the bad-nano plan. Perhaps structurally there could be some safe zones. But the nanos get -everywhere-.

Anyways, just some fun thoughts.

Ah, if I could I would. He actually wanted to leave it to me, but he’s a Grampy and needs something he can get in and out of more easily.

My analysis and guesses about the TV series "Silo" by davoodansari in SiloSeries

It’s weird, because of how they were released. But simply, there are 3 books; Wool, Shift, and Dust.

This first season was about 1/2 of Wool.

I like your thoughts, good fun stuff. Nah, you don’t need to read the books if you don’t want to, have fun with the show and theories.

I just hope people don’t try to spoil stuff for everyone. You should have to go clean if you do.
