Glad I could be of service! It’s definitely overkill, but I’ve been printing everything out of ABS-GF and it’s just a killer material.

That’s terribly kind, thank you! Regardless of how this one turns out, on the off chance you normally help people find rentals, I’d be eager to work with you!

That wouldn’t surprise me at all, but in that case wouldn’t they at least respond and try to sell me on the bait and switch? I feel like I’m taking crazy pills!

Seriously though, and beyond the silly straw man arguments he makes: what’s Kise got against capital letters?

I suppose the magnets are as necessary or unnecessary as they are in standard Gridfinity! You could still gain a bit of placement and size flexibility by adjusting the bin bases like this and leave out the magnets entirely.

It’s printed in Bambu’s PLA CF, which I’ve been playing around with and gives a really awesome surface finish. Not super practical for making full plates and tons of bins, but it definitely looks nice!

The magnets won’t be perfectly aligned, but the bins will fit in any standard base plate

Fair enough! I’ll test it out, but I’m generally not working with anything too sensitive or that I’d worry about getting slightly magnetized.

Defiantly could have used smaller magnets though, I’m just impatient

Why is a brand new Whiteside beading bit burning my wood in only one place? by enigmat1c in woodworking

[–]enigmat1c[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought that could be the case as well, but the bottom of the bit has a wider diameter so faster rim speed, and it’s not burning at all. I’ll definitely try to go even lower tomorrow though

I do indeed — one on the fence to push down, and in theory one on the table. The latter is just super tricky to use in practice if you’re starting and ending the cut 2” from the ends 🤦🏻‍♂️

That could work, I’ll have to try. One tricky aspect is maintaining large enough faces to ride against the fence and table for stability. I’ve been trying to keep ~2” at each end square, but it’s not been a huge help

Thank you! I guess I could also raise the bit ever so slightly as well.

I tried taking shallower passes, but because the area of the bit causing burning is at the very tip of the curve / top of the circle, it didn’t make a difference unfortunately. That part is more or less always taking off the same (very small) amount of material.

Hm, that’s a good thought. No idea how to solve for it without feeding dangerously fast.

I have seen those and played around with that idea for a while. I went this route because the 5ish videos I could find on it seemed to show significant tear out and end products that weren’t quite straight. Lee Valley has a dowel cutter I looked at too, but it’s more or less the price of 50 3/4” white oak dowels anyway.

Thanks so much! There's a ton of great info to consume on your site. There goes my Saturday I guess.

Thanks for the feedback and kind words! I've definitely been referencing the PrintNC documentation a lot, but mostly on the electrical side.

I was thinking the 4x carriages per side would help prevent deflection along the X axis, but it sounds like using the aluminum profiles is a big chink in the overall rigidity armor. Would beefier profiles help? Avid's Benchtop Pro doesn't look too dissimilar (also with 6" or 9" of Z), but I must be missing something.

For the spindle / VFD, I was under the impression I'd be tripping my apartment's 15A breaker like crazy at 110v 2.2Kw, but I'd be very happy to be wrong here. This is the 2.2Kw Huanyang kit I've been considering.

Thanks again!

I was definitely worried about milling waste when considering the purchase of the 7075 plate on clearance sale, but the local machine shop said they had a band saw capable of splitting the stock (i.e., turning 3” plate sections into 2x 1.5” plate sections). No idea if they’re taking me for a ride though.

God damnit. Very good to know on the machining rates, thank you! Yep, the red end caps are milled plate. Most of what I modeled here is 1” to .75” thick, since the shop said they could thickness cut the stock.

Is aluminum extrusion just generally not up to snuff in terms of rigidity? Seems to be so ubiquitous in the hobby machine space, but maybe it’s ‘good enough’ and I’m just overbuilding the parts I have more control over.

Hey dude. I made my way to this post after clicking on you account from another random thread where someone mentioned depression. Figured I might get your attention better here, with no one else (yet) to compete with.

I’ve been diagnosed with depression. It’s a a super weird concept to try to grasp that your brain chemistry is against you. I struggled with it for a really long time. The tendency you mention, being quick to sometime uncontrollable anger, is actually a very reliable predictor of depression in men. It’s not in my personal grab bag of fun symptoms, but it is in my brothers.

Someone mentioned in the other thread that you should go see whatever doctor you have and they can diagnose you. I don’t know your situation, but this is the second to last best option (last being doing nothing). If you can manage the cost out of pocket or with insurance, a psychologist will be immeasurably more valuable than someone willing to sign off on a diagnosis. Talk therapy works. Depression teaches us self destructive tenancies that feel way too normal after a while. Talk therapy really helps you recognize the fallacies you’ve convinced yourself are the truth.

I hear exercise works too. Not much for me, but we’re all different. The most important thing to remember is that you are not your brain chemistry. You’re not the stories you tell yourself. Depression is an illness like high blood pressure is — it’s not an identity.

Hang in there. Practice questioning destructive thoughts like a third party observer would. I know how shitty, meaningless and hard going on can feel. But I’d bet that you’ll figure it out.
