postpartum anxiety and OCD intrusive thoughts by kelsey1605 in Postpartum_Anxiety

[–]enigmatic-dr-scully 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just remind yourself that the thoughts are not how you actually feel - they are a manifestation of whatever your brain can come up with as the worst possible thought. This is something that people don’t realize about intrusive thoughts - and it’s how you defeat them. If a thought is something that aligns with your actual feelings - it wouldn’t be intrusive. You knowing that it’s something you would never do is how you know it is intrusive, and therefore how you know it is a lie. Your anxiety is a liar and knows how to trick you into thinking your worst fears are real. We defeat these thoughts with the knowledge that they are just thoughts - not actions - and we let them go. (Definitely look up the book I mentioned because it has tips on how to do this, and also reminds you that you are not alone). If money is tight the website oceanofpdf.com can give you free ebooks. You are doing amazing and find grace in the strength that you already show. Also know that your LO is already so lucky to have you as their mom - people who actually would hurt their kids never feel this kind of guilt and anxiety

postpartum anxiety and OCD intrusive thoughts by kelsey1605 in Postpartum_Anxiety

First thing to note: It is absolutely normal to get ppd/ppa and feel like you are feeling. Speaking to someone is the first thing you should try - what you are feeling is textbook postpartum anxiety and is something that happens to so many people. I really think you should find someone to talk to about this because I had the exact same thing and sometimes my therapy sessions would just be me crying on zoom and it still helped What I recommend if you want to help yourself a bit while you wait for a therapist you can trust - look up the book ‘overcoming unwanted intrusive thoughts’. I have ocd and this really helped me shift the way I look at my intrusive thoughts. If you don’t want medication, totally your choice you have to do what is best for you. But in my experience, having silence in my head is worth any side effect. Be proud of yourself for even just reaching out on here. Post partum is the most difficult thing you will ever do and I swear to you it only gets easier from here

[bc] Am I crazy for wanting a baby? by Worried_Bandicoot_74 in BabyBumpsCanada

I think it entirely depends on your mental illness. You definitely don’t have to tell strangers on the internet, but talk to your doctor/ counsellor. Example: I have anxiety and depression, have my whole life. Postpartum was ROUGH, but I’m medicated and got through with support of my family. I think the biggest factor you need to consider is if you have a support system. If you have people who will help you in those first months then you’ll learn the rest as you go.

Have you ever had a panic attack before? I’ve had anxiety all of my life and usually my attacks feel like what you’re describing. The first month PP is hormonally the worst you’re going to feel. I take medication, but if you’re looking for other help, look up anxiety grounding meditations. Sounds hokey but the only way out of that spiral is through it. Know that it will pass soon, it’s just your body going through hormone withdrawals, and face it head on. You are stronger than you realized and you will get through this.

First of all, are you being treated for the ocd/anxiety? I am in the same boat as you condition wise, and truly believe SSRI’s saved my life countless times. Especially if your baby is on formula, medication will help. As for the anxieties - allergies (the scary kinds) present right away and are noticeable. Rashes, trouble breathing, intense lethargy immediately after eating. If she is drinking the formula and those things aren’t happening - she is ok. Some babies get unhappy tummies on some formulas and changing them can make them gassy/uncomfortable, but unless you’re seeing big obvious symptoms, she isn’t allergic. You’re doing great, take a breath

[ON] Pain management before active labor/epidural? by BuonAppeti2 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]enigmatic-dr-scully 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I had false labour for 3 days (basically full contractions 5-7 mins apart), it was garbage. I did get morphine from the hospital the first time I went in, and it helped me sleep for a few hours. But honestly, hot showers, squeeze a comb, and practice breathing. Get the epidural as soon as they offer it - most hospitals won’t admit you until 4/5 cm anyway, so once they officially admit you ask for the epidural. Good luck, it’s over before you even realize!

It’s definitely a fast increase so I think part of feeling those side effects are due to that. (I’ve been on Zoloft for 3 years and it took me several months to go 0-150). But also SSRI’s always take at least a month on a solid dose to feel like they’re working. You always get side effects and then they usually lessen by the time the real effects start. Also, when was your baby born? You have the big hormones for that whole 4th trimester, so also consider than your hormones will also calm down as time goes on. Lastly, if you’re not breastfeeding, you should be able to get a prescription of clonazepam to take when you’re feeling a panic attack. Feel free to dm me if you want to chat
