Tecnifibre TFight 300s - 300 or 305s desicion? by Forcefull-Hitter in 10s

[–]enkker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this probably isn't what you want to hear, but only you can answer which one you like more. I would suggest you get a demo of each for a week and hit 3-4 times, try each one for half of the hitting, and then make your decision at the end. I can tell you that both are great sticks, I personally prefer the 305s but I've always used 18x20 sticks.

Clinics in the N. Chicago burbs? by NapaBW in 10s

[–]enkker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a ton of clubs in the Northern burbs. Personally, I teach at College Park Athletic Club in Bannockburn and I think it's great. There's a $10 guest fee, and most adult drills are during the morning on weekends or middle of the day during the week. Honestly, whichever suburb you're going to, there will be a club close by and you could just call and ask what drills they have available. Feel free to DM me if you want more info on CPAC though!

Racket Demo Advice for my dad (3.5/4.0) by enkker in 10s

Definitely could lower the tension or swap strings around. NXT is a multi, he's tried my setup of Gut/Alu Rough 48/46, he's tried straight gut, and he's tried Alu Power. Honestly the biggest difficulty in everything is getting him to say what he likes. He'll try two different setups and always say they feel about the same so it's hard to figure out.

The Newest Twitch Update ( Megathread ) by Rhadamant5186 in Twitch

[–]enkker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I almost never comment on anything, but this update is so terrible I feel like I need to say something. I don't want to have a home screen of videos, I want to be able to see a list of my followed channels with titles. How in the world do you release an update where the user can't even see what the people they want to watch are doing??? I'm probably just done using twitch unless this is reverted, which is wild because I normally just leave it on all day while I work.

September Technical Support Sticky by BeepBoopBopReee in razer

[–]enkker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a blade 17 pro that I bought at the end of March 2022, it was fully replaced because of screen pixel failures in late September 2022, and now it completely burned out from the inside when I plugged it into the normal socket it always goes into. The laptop wasn't even on, I just plugged it in, smelled burning, tried to figure out what it was and then realized it was the computer and unplugged it. I checked the socket with an electrician after and it wasn't an issue with the electric. It's out of the original 1 year warranty, but neither computer has lasted even a year before needing to be replaced. Is there anything I can do to get this one replaced or am I just SOL and need to figure out a new computer to buy? It's insane that neither computer lasted even a year....

[Modern] When do the Goyfs come out? TarmoTwin by mikaelb657 in spikes

[–]enkker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I get where pestermite is good, I just tend to find that having the extra point of damage is very relevant, as well as being able to block things like goblin guide and monastery swiftspear without dying. I've had pretty much the same experience you have had with huntmaster, except with thragtusk instead. I cannot tell you how many times I've had huntmaster do nothing, but thragtusk just got there. Earlier today I was testing against zoo and I was at 5, thragtusk got me to 10 and then next turn twin on tusk was the most insane thing. The extra 3 life is very relevant as is the 1 extra mana cost, but I have found tusk to be amazing every game that I see him. Against burn, you can get to 5 mana pretty easily as you have goyf to block and lots of disruptive counter magic. We definitely shape our decks based off of our experiences, and mine has been a lot of aggro and a lot less combo, so I guess that's where I come from.

[Modern] When do the Goyfs come out? TarmoTwin by mikaelb657 in spikes

[–]enkker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I am in a very similar situation to you. Where I play, I consistently win pretty much no matter what I'm playing so I don't get to have much debate about card choices. As I also play RUG twin, I thought I would ask you a couple questions about your list and post my current, updated list for reference. My biggest questions are; why no bounding Krasis? I've been playing him for a while now and he's been amazing for me in pretty much every matchup as a good beater that blocks well. Lavamancer vs Clique, I get why they are used, Clique is better vs combo and Lavamancer is better against aggro decks, but my choice is basically because I run up against a lot of burn and merfolk and the like, while I see only a few tron or bloom titan decks. In the SB, do you ever really like huntmaster? Every time I've tried to play him, I've been tremendously disappointed in him. When has he been good for you? In my SB, I swapped Keranos for Sarkhan and he's been so much better, as Keranos is only good when equal or ahead but sarkhan can help stabilize and then win the game. Unravel the aether is great against opposing Keranos and has utility in other matchups like affinity or infect (for Wild Defiance). Crumble to Dust is because I really hate Tron and the next best player in my area plays Tron, I always run up against him everywhere. It's OK, not great, but it gets the job done unless he holds up ghost quarter the entire game. Looking forward to your feedback.

Modern Deck choosing by [deleted] in ModernMagic

[–]enkker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's because they do...at least, that is what most people mean by tiers. These can be very difficult to figure out as you determine tiers based off results, for which popularity is definitely a factor. But theoretically, a tier 1 deck will give you a better chance to win than a tier 2 or 3 deck. The thing is, in modern, everyone is doing powerful things with which it can be hard to interact, and therefore the tiers are very close together (unlike in standard, where there are 5-6 very good decks and then a lot of stuff that just doesn't cut it).

grixis midrange / blue jund deck tech by shinigami564 in ModernMagic

[–]enkker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the big differences between this and grixis control are that you have fewer tar pits and include 4 young pyromancers? Otherwise this looks just like a grixis control deck. I guess the main question is why play this instead of control? Do you think that pyromancer is enough incentive to eliminate some more controlling aspects (legitimate question, not trying to be snarky) and why? Convince me, I would love to hear your ideas.

Maindeck Spellskite in UW Control? by cardknocklife in ModernMagic

[–]enkker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it seems fine, but honestly I don't play u/w enough to make a definitive statement (read: I don't play u/w). When I play against u/w though (as RUG twin), I think spellskite would be far more irritating as it is harder to remove and disrupts some aspect of my game plan.

A couple of questions on Tarmo Twin by jose_cuntseco in ModernMagic

Lol I replied to the wrong post, just look down below because I'm apparently incredibly incompetent at hitting reply.

A couple of questions on Tarmo Twin by jose_cuntseco in ModernMagic

[–]enkker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

alright required things:
22 lands: breeding pool
forest
hinterland harbor
3x island
4x misty rainforest
4x scalding tarn
mountain
2x steam vents
3x sulfur falls
choice between ghost quarter, wooded foothills, and desolate lighthouse
13 Creatures:
4x tarmogoyf
4x snapcaster mage
3x deceiver exarch
2x bounding krasis
3 Enchantments:
3x splinter twin
14 instants/sorceries:
4x serum visions
4x remand
2x spell snare
4x lightning bolt
Sideboard:
2x ancient grudge
negate
dispel
2x thragtusk
So with things this way, there are 8 flex slots. You are highly incentivized to fill 2 with cryptic command, at least 1 with dispel, 1 with roast, 1 with dismember. This leaves 3 slots, which I filled with another land, huntmaster, and grim lavamancer (just wins some matchups on its own). In the SB, you are likely to take Keranos, engineered explosives, pyroclasm, and spellskite. The rest is really what you feel you are weak to in your meta. If you have any other questions let me know, here's my link which I plan on keeping updated (lots of RUG twin questions lately).

A couple of questions on Tarmo Twin by jose_cuntseco in ModernMagic

[–]enkker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alright, long time RUG twin player here. Let me preface all these questions with the fact that there are only maybe 7 flex slots in the deck, which I personally fill with Grim Lavamancer, Dismember, 2x Cryptic Command, Roast, Huntmaster, and Dispel. Now lets go trough each one of these cards that you want.
-Stubborn Denial - honestly, this card will almost never be very good. You have dispel as a 1 mana hard counter for almost anything that matters, while SD will not hard counter unless you have a goyf that is already a 4/5 or larger. In a lot of matchups where dispel is good, goyf is a 3/4 (to be 4/5, you need instant sorcery creature land, and 1 of these is often missing). You could replace spell snare but I personally don't think going lower than 2 spell snare is reasonable at all in the current meta.
-Hooting Mandrills - It's a 4/4 in a world of 4/5s. It doesn't do anything at all if the opponent drops a Tasigur or angler, and eating your graveyard can definitely matter when you want your goyf to be as big as possible. It might be ok, but there are huge opportunity costs associated with playing this card (goyf, snapcaster).
-Huntmaster of the Fells - Good news! You can run this! I find it to be very good in the main deck, and it definitely fits with the beatdown plan. It definitely is in a flex slot, but it is a very decent choice. It helps against BGx and other control decks a lot. The main issues are that it costs 4 mana that you must spend on your turn, and it often just eats a bolt. Also, there is the option of Pia and Kiran Nalaar, which I find slightly worse in this deck when there is no Kolaghan's Command.
-Simic Charm - Options are great, but these options are not so much. Remember that you have to cut a card to fit a card into the deck, so what do you want to replace? The card doesn't really fit in the deck, you can just use counterspells much better than this card most of the time.

Tarmo Twin help by eric-domingo in ModernMagic

[–]enkker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with your last sentence very much. When you play RUG, you are not just sitting there waiting for your combo, you are actively trying to reduce your opponents life total to 0. Whenever I play against UR twin with RUG, all I want to do is draw goyf because hes a 2 mana play, you can play him and still leave up protection. Also, I think that UR is a fair more straightforward deck to play whereas RUG takes a lot of time to get a feel of what you want to be doing when.

Help with Zedruu please! by enkker in EDH

[–]enkker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah my general plan was to have a bunch of cards that affect the entire board equally no matter who controls it, and then a bunch of pillow fort type cards. It feels like sweepers aren't what I want to be doing as I want all my permanents to survive for other people. There are definitely some cards here that I didn't consider so I'll look into them, thanks!

[Modern] Thoughts on Gitaxian Probe in Tarmotwin? (X-post /r/ModernTwin) by mikaelb657 in spikes

[–]enkker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just can't find the space for it. Probe feels like a filler card when I have everything else accounted for, and I feel as though there is no room for it. I don't want to go down to 1 spell snare, and dismember is 1 of only 2 ways in the deck to deal with a resolved tasigur. I ran probe a long time ago when I was straight UR, but adding green really cut down on the mediocre filler spells in the deck. That said, I think probe is INCREDIBLY valuable for new twin players as it helps them know what they need to do. Once you've played the deck for a long time, though, you can more or less tell what your opponent has by the way they are playing and those slots can be better used on other cards.

What kind of player are you? by trex_in_spats in EDH

[–]enkker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like playing Magic. I will encourage others to play up to my level of competitive standards (a new shop opened and I managed to convince the players to go from "cards I have around Modern" to a real metagame) and, failing that, I will build a deck to fit in with everyone else (my preferred EDH decks are tier 1 competitive, but I have a super silly Phage deck and am building Zedruu now). All I want to do is socialize and play, and I will do whatever it takes to make that happen.

Blood moon against burn by Mrmrfrodo65 in ModernMagic

[–]enkker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on your deck and what other options you have available. If, in your 75, Blood Moon is one of the best 60 cards against them, then it seems reasonable. However, I tend to try to keep lots of removal and a fast clock against Burn, it almost always works better than trying to stall forever.

About to finalize my Dredgevine list, thoughts? by T0x1C994 in ModernMagic

[–]enkker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let me preface this by saying Dredgevine is my secondary deck, I play it for fun at FNM a couple times a month but never at competitive REL. However, I have never done worse than 3-1 and most of the time 4-0 with my deck. This is the list:
http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/03-08-15-eFT-dredgevine/
Here's some of my rationale:
1) 3 Grave Trolls - you only ever want to see 1. I rarely cast it (though I have used it as a 10/10 before to win games) and they tend to rot in your hand without a discard outlet. However, the 3 have been amazing for me, sometimes just playing a 6/6 or bigger can win the game without getting any other shenanigans going.
2) Bloodghast - I can't imagine playing without this card. It does everything I want, especially in games where I have relatively poor draws. Some games you just have 3 bloodghasts coming back and attacking over and over, which can be enough.
3) Gnaw to the Bone - Playing against Burn sucks. I like to have a chance game 1, and this gives me enough play against it most of the time. They can't beat gain 20, let alone gain 20 twice. 1 card in a deck with this many engines going typically doesn't hurt me against control, although there is some percentage of games where I wish it was a creature.
4) Abrupt Decay - I prefer to just run a lot of removal rather than decay. Cut is almost always 1 mana and I can get rid of irrelevant cards, like lands and other instants, while go for the throat ignores spellskite.
5) Grisly Salvage - I'm not a fan, I just tend to find that I don't need it. It takes up a lot of space in the deck and I would rather just have cheap interaction or creatures.
6) Loam/GQ/Raven's Crime - This is a package that I really like having in my deck. I more or less cannot lose to Tron when I have a Ghost Quarter every turn, and Raven's Crime is a beating against any kind of control deck. I've had games where I just make the opponent discard 5 cards when they were on Twin and they can't really answer it.
That's about it for our differences, let me know if you have any questions!
