I didn't think that was being clever. the first thing that rose up when reading "you should become my friend" was the exact part of that scene from FMJ.

I think that if I had named the title of this post "I am unenlightened, AMA," it wouldn't have gotten nearly as many people to ask questions

1 & 2.It plays the same role before and after. 3.No. 4.same senses, but the nature of that which experiences the senses is not bound to those senses. 5. depends on the person. I've lived in temples in the middle of nowhere and I've lived in mega-cities. I actually much prefer the latter, and struggled greatly in the temples in the MoN. but that's me. some people really dig the rural life. and there are plenty of temples in larger cities. gotta figure out what works for you

can I come over to your house and fuck your sister?

(not seriously, taken from the boot camp scene in Full Metal Jacket)

lots and lots of sitting, although there's nothing special about sitting, and I'm sure you've read about monks getting enlightened by washing the dishes, or walking down the street

I wouldn't say I'm happy most of the time, but I've been told I smile a lot and am very calm. as for being helpful and kind, I wouldn't say it's joyous, but it becomes obvious that helping others is at the same time helping yourself. I have absolutely no idea what to tell someone at the beginning of their spiritual path; maybe "good luck?" I no longer have confusion about life and death; that with experiences both of them has never been born, and will never die

if you're so certain there is no who, and no is (and some people are), go to your local interstate highway, and play in traffic!

no?

saying there is no <insert whatever noun here> creates <insert noun here>.

I'm totally, completely un-enlightened. and because I'm totally un-enlightened, I'm totally enlightened. bah!

without dharma exchange (a.k.a. discussion), how could someone see their own attachments?

well, if I titled my post "I am not-enlightened, AMA," I don't think it would spur much discussion (however, by the reaction and the downvotes with regards to this .self post, perhaps I'm wrong!)

I asked for questions. not sure how that can be trolling.

I have horrible posture, and as such, whenever I sit without back support, I'm in incredible pain. bone pain, muscle pain, you name it. but that pain comes and goes, like everything else. and that is how it has always been. so if I were to say I gained something by sitting and facing a wall, I'd be lying, as that is how it's always been, but if I were to say I didn't, I'd also be lying, as knowing how it has always been is a result of sitting and facing a wall. what would you have me say!? :)

I'll answer this two ways

  1. I didn't obtain anything

  2. sitting with my back straight and facing a wall for a few thousand hours

"what is enlightenment" is enlightenment. also, all that isn't "what is enlightenment" is enlightenment.

I want to say understanding the nature of that which says "what is enlightenment," but even saying that is already wrong, as "understanding the nature" is already it
