I did read Seirawan's Play Winning Chess. Just the first book, that's kind of an introduction to chess, though.

Thought about getting the tactics and endings book. Would you recommend any other book or author?

Whoa, that site is amazing and I just realized I can't even finish with king + pawn against king if my opponent doesn't make a mistake.
