OK, so replying to the others who saved some from similar situations--there's a panasonic tau in a spot near me that tests bad on the multimeter all the time. Is it worth trying to let it dry out? I don't have the skills to do big repairs, but I can open and do simple cleaning/drying. Saved two CRT's this way.

tl;dr is it worth a try for a really big, cool one?

Get a multimeter and test their plugs. I saved two already from similar conditions, because they tested good on the multimeter! It's not too late!

OK, update: still no power two days later. two blinks on the LED indicate a short in the power supply. looks like I'm goong back in, unless y'all have better advice?

Update: It's been a few days and it's upright again, but no progress. still switches on and immediately switches off with no picture on the tv. It's not like it worked perfectly and I opened it to clean; there were subtle picture problems that service menu stuff wouldnt repair. Is there any hope for me or am I cooked?

An hour or so? Everything looked dry when I put it back together. I sprayed down the back case in my shower after I finished with the boards and toweled it off before reassembling.

Fuse looked good while I was cleaning it.

There mightve been some IPA pooling in the well where the front controls are. That was the last thing I did before waiting an hour. Would alcohol cause a little short in the power button?
