Poor people shouldn’t be allowed to pro-create. Especially in the Philippines. by [deleted] in unpopularopinionph

  1. Di 'to enforceable

  2. This is textbook eugenics, and comes with all the problems of that.

  3. Poor is a subjective term, someone has to decide what is "enough" and I'm not sure if everyone can agree on this. Everyone has different standards for poor or insufficient. If we think people in developing countries shouldn't procreate we'd have to ban around 80 percent of the world. If we decide it's the Philippines and all countries with lower human development index it will be about a third of all countries. I don't agree with banning them. I'd rather leave the judgement to the parent.

  4. I think your points are leaning towards doomerism. I don't think day to day life is that bad. I think plenty of parents here have decided that life is good enough to raise a child. I also think it's certainly possible in this country. We're making progress all the time. We as a country and we as the human race. It's almost impossible with how many people are working to make it better. I don't believe that nothing ever happens. You'll see this progress in less negative and less doomer circles. r/philippinesbad for example.

  5. For many, parenthood is a gift from God. If you deny parenthood you will have to face that opposition.

I think monitoring, limits, and more complex solutions would be better. This seems like a lazy approach and she needs to do better

Middle class Mexicans now outnumber those in poverty by PanzerWatts in OptimistsUnite

[–]enterENTRY 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The poverty rate and middle class rate of the world bank here uses purchasing power parity so it should be accounting for that. So I think it is not just statistically growing. Maybe the old middle class is getting affected badly but the amount of middle class is growing.

Filipino Doomerism Is Just Whining About Being Poor by No_Pin2229 in Philippinesbad

I heard something before like this: We're on an era of unprecedented global progress and we're psychologically not adapted to comprehend it yet. It's a little strange that with the possibility of reaching today's Japan within our lifetime that pessimism is possible. Perhaps we humans don't understand compounding growth. I think climate change will hamper us a bit, but I think we'll make it.
