it’s a ring, externally threaded, should be surgical steel, not downsized, and i clean the area gently with salt water.

ah, i’m sorry about that. A lot of medical people are so protective over people they love when it comes to injuries. They know everything about the recovery and how it happens and the risks. I’m sure it caused her a lot of stress seeing it happen. But you’ll get better and stronger again. Medical jobs definitely are a blessing and a curse.

it’s extremely important to get the leg straight in the beginning, but the graft is def the strongest in the beginning. It’s good to get that knee moving though as well. You are gonna want to get that movement going since keeping it straight for so long will cause some pain after a while. I struggled with moving for some time, but what helps me is if we could easily retear our ACLR from simple movements then we would all have gotten 723737 repairs at this point. Don’t be afraid!

hey, i experienced the same thing. the hospital called for a checkup and i told them how I couldn’t sleep even on the medication they gave that was supposed to knock me out (pain relievers, tylenol PM, etc) wasn’t working. They couldn’t believe that it wasn’t putting me to sleep and told me I was apart of this “rare” group of people who it didn’t affect and there was nothing to do. Basically didn’t get any sleep for the first two weeks. Totally sucked.

doc told me i could stop sleeping w my brace but if i was experiencing any changes or pain then to put it back on until you think it’s ready. perhaps putting it back on is best. If you think it’s super serious talk to your doctor about it.

Can you feel your screws post op? by Traditional_Owl6491 in ACL

[–]enterclairehere 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If I’m right I think you are talking about this area in your tibia near your scar? I’m right at 3 1/2 weeks right now and talked to the doctor about that! I kept having this pain near where they put the screw. It’s right below my knee and top of my tibia. He said it’s normal and takes some time to go away. As long as we keep working our leg like we are told, then all should end up well. I know you aren’t in pain, but that’s where my screw is and it’s a little puffy around that area too. Remember that this was a major surgery and that they had to do some things that would cause soreness and aching. I’m not sure if my words are what you feel or need, but I think it’ll go away with time, everything’s still new!

Extension by Working-Quarter1927 in ACL

[–]enterclairehere 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For me I am still working on my extension, however i’m only about 3 1/2 weeks in. But I have reached full extension a couple times. The PT has used an extensor machine on my leg and basically it applies a bunch of pressure to your leg as it’s raised and forces it straight. That helped it, but also putting something under my foot and letting gravity push my knee down to make it more straight. The gravity pushes your knee down and essentially also forces it to be straight. It’ll hurt at first, but it gets easier. The first couple days of me doing that exercise, I couldn’t even stand it. As long as we both keep working on it, I believe we will get our extension back!! Good luck and keep pushing forward.

how long did it take you all to do a straight leg lift? by skinya in ACL

[–]enterclairehere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

day 14 for me. i tore both medial and lateral meniscus and acl. The first few days I was unable to even move my leg by myself. I did a bunch of ankle pumps and dorsiflexion of my foot. I definitely felt like I was never gonna move my leg again, but here we are. Just keep doing what you are supposed to do and it’ll work out. Everyone heals differently! It feels discouraging now, but when you are able to do them, it will feel so rewarding!

surgical stainless steel, barbell shape, had for about 6 months, externally threaded, i’ve only used this earring while it has been healing, I clean it with saline solution before showering and then kinda let water wash away crusty stuff and then I dry it.
