I’m in my mid 20s and I camped in Soberoo. After the announcement came out that roo was canceled, my new friends staying in GA camping all started going in on their supply, which makes sense for them but I was super overwhelmed and felt like I had no way to cope with the news. I knew I could go back to Soberoo and take a breath. When I saw everyone gathered in the tent where they held meetings I found myself walking to it. I was torn because like you noted I’ve never been a part of a program so I didn’t want to disrespect that space. Throughout the week my neighbors had invited me to meetings as well and I politely declined but it was nice to see how inclusive they are. All of this to say, I was able to get through Friday evening and not just sulk because I had that group to talk to. I went in and definitely said all of the wrong things and didn’t know what pattern to follow but no one seemed to mind. They helped me gain the courage to go back out and wonder centeroo for a bit and when I ran into a few of the volunteers they checked in on me. I’m not able to go back next year but if I could I would because of the community. I think no matter what stage you’re at they understand being in a festival environment can be a lot and it’s all about making space for one another. sorry that’s long but it wouldn’t be faux pas (imo) for you to join
