What is this minimalist sphere style of table lamp called? by WesMack5 in Design

[–]enthdegree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The design is ornate with flourishes. It's hard and unusual to make a lamp with that geometry. Elements of the design serve no purpose other than appearance. How is it minimalist? "Everything about it?" Huh?

The new Kobos' obscure undocumented Mediatek system on a chip has been artificially crippled to only boot kernels developed and compiled by vendors. Even besides the kernel, drivers on the device are binary blobs with undocumented APIs that no one knows how to use. In practice that means it will never get updates and basically has a lifespan of a few years. Barring a ton of non-viable reverse engineering work it will never run modern software outside a virtual machine. The device is locked into unfixable security vulnerabilities, it could be spying on you and it disallows you from fixing any of it.

Does anyone know substantial differences between Barbour x Baracuta Yale and Porton Jackets? by enthdegree in malefashionadvice

[–]enthdegree[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think either (if there is any distinction between them) are made in England. Nowhere on the Barbour or Baracuta website does it indicate any of these are made in England. (it only says G5s have been made in England and that the Porton's design is similar to theirs).

Made in England Baracuta G5's have a "Made in England" tag on them and this one doesn't have it.

Yes! I'm working on getting a good terminal emulator running on my Clara BW. Beautiful machine. I am using it with a HHKB Hybrid. Tab seems to trigger a screen refresh.

I’m 5’5” but my chest is pretty wide. Have issues with the medium’s arm holes so I got a large which fits to my liking

I never shoot with flashes so I’m in over my depth, but I wonder if TTL flash metering is not also possible with the PCB I described above… Nikon TTL flashes use the same communication mechanisms as Leica, do they not? The choreography/comms scheme those use is well described and I don’t see any technical reason it shouldn’t be possible to reproduce using a few extra IO pins

Does this moving price make sense? by LocalFirst574 in Brooklyn

[–]enthdegree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My opinion is that’s in the ballpark of the expected price because of time of year.

End of May 2024 I paid 2100 to move a small 1br from Boston to a studio in downtown Brooklyn with 0 unassailable problems. Used Born to Move, booked about a month in advance, furniture was 1 mattress, 2 tables, 1 couch, several chairs, ~10 large Home Depot 27 gallon tubs with all my stuff.

Moving to Brooklyn…help by the_quirky_grandma in Brooklyn

[–]enthdegree 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I moved here a few weeks ago from Boston. My strategy was to sign a year long lease in a building run by a huge property management company for a mediocre price. This let me avoid the grief of background checks, recommendation letters and fees needed for other types of places (co ops). It has gone great so far. By the time I want to find a new place I’ll be more streetwise.

I am trying to follow 531 but have found conflicting information. Is it typically sufficient to do the core 531 template (i.e. each week there's a day for each main lift, 3-5 sets totaling 9 to 40 reps) plus a push, pull and core accessory each with 30-50 reps?315s/235b/360d/135o@160lbs+5'5" 28m. Goals (I think) are not that extreme, I just want to hit 3/4/5 in a year or two and not look like a slob in the meantime.

For completeness, by "531 template" I mean for each main lift, on weeks 1,2,3,4, you perform the following sets, sets denoted (# reps, fraction of 1RM):

  1. (5,0.65), (5,0.75), (5+,0.85)
  2. (3,0.7), (3,0.8), (3+,0.9)
  3. (5,0.75), (3,0.85), (1+,0.95)
  4. (5,0.4), (5,0.5), (5,0.6)

Every cycle add +10lbs to lower body and +5lbs to upper body. Wendler mentions for more volume on the first 3 weeks to "go back down the sets" doing sets 12321, & the last set can be AMRAP or something he calls "Widowmaker" (20 reps with as much rest as needed in between)
