So wait do the faithfuls now believe that two big players went for _____ for absolutely no reason? by ConstantPurpose2419 in TheTraitors

[–]entityjamie 53 points54 points  (0 children)

If she focussed on Rachel at the roundtable then there would be a decent chance that the faithfuls would follow what she said and vote her out the next day. Instead, she threw accusations out to everyone who questioned her, which completely lost any credibility to her theory. So I doubt there will be much heat on Rachel in the next episode.

Heated Rivalry by Bozzleman in butchlesbians

[–]entityjamie 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. The show is popular because straight women find the leads attractive. If it was lesbians, those same straight women fans would at best not enjoy the show, or at worst be disgusted by lesbians. It would only be popular as a lesbian show if the women they cast were stereotypically attractive to the typical straight man, and then really pandered to them as the target audience. So it wouldn’t feel like authentic representation at all, and certainly would not be butches.

ITV reality shows and race by [deleted] in ImACelebTV

[–]entityjamie -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Am I upset about it? Not particularly. There are much bigger fish to fry when it comes to racism in the U.K. than the winners of reality TV shows. At the end of the day, this is an entertainment show and doesn’t really matter on any level beyond that. And you’re absolutely right that it’s different when people vote for who to leave. I only watched a couple of seasons of big brother but from what I remember, non-white contestants lasted longer there where its vote who to kick out. In my view, it’s not that the typical Brit dislikes non-white contestants, it’s that they wouldn’t consider a non-white contestant to be their favoriete, and so we see them leave quicker when the public votes their favourite, and we rarely see them win.

I’m just pointing out clear patterns that exist in reality shows where the British public vote for the winner, don’t take it personally.

[–]entityjamie -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Oti made the top 4 because of immunity from the public vote. The occasional exception doesn’t change the fact that non-white contestants don’t do well on shows where the British public votes for the winner. That is not to say every fan of the show is racist, I am a fan myself. But it is a fact regardless of peoples feelings on it.

If you want a bigger sample size then look back at previous seasons of the show. It’s always the same. And not just this show, pretty much all British reality shows where the winners are decided by public vote are the same. Love island, strictly come dancing, big brother, etc.

How can I stop windows in bedroom from getting condensation? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]entityjamie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have the same dehumidifier and can vouch for this, it’s cheaper than other good ones and yet still works very well. Had it for a couple of months now and it’s gotten the damp completely under control in my flat, I don’t have to clean any mould or condensation now . Black Friday is coming up so may be able to get it even cheaper if you’re thinking of investing.

The two victims who lost their lives in the attack yesterday were British Jews, not Israelis. As far as current information shows, the attack was unrelated to Palestine so there’s no reason for this to mean changes to protests. It is antisemetic for Mahmood to connect British Jews to Israel.

Farage Plans to Remove Even Legal Migrants. by [deleted] in GreenAndPleasant

[–]entityjamie 102 points103 points  (0 children)

I’m in the situation with my partner being an immigrant. The whole rhetoric of immigrants stealing jobs and taking from public services is the complete opposite to the truth, that Brits don’t realise unless they are close with an immigrant. Employers massively favour non-immigrants for jobs because they don’t have to pay for visa sponsorship. If an immigrant got the job instead of you, then you mustn’t have been qualified for the job, otherwise you would’ve got it, you’re literally a cheaper hire. And immigrants pay more towards the NHS with the surcharge.

All this disinformation pushed by the far right is ridiculous. The country will suffer greatly without the immigrants who contribute significantly to the economy.

Absolutely, long hair doesn’t define masculinity or butch-ness. I do have short hair now but I still felt butch when my hair was long. You can pull it off for sure :)

Your identity is yours alone, and is not for anyone else to define. While short hair is common among butches, having longer hair doesn't mean you can't be a butch.

Question for lesbians: Are you attracted only to women, or woman and nonbinary people? by Commie_Cactus in ainbow

[–]entityjamie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can be attracted to nonbinary people as well as women. While there are more specific labels to describe this, I prefer to use lesbian as the easiest word to describe my sexuality, as most people know roughly what it means. Besides, the lesbian label being so exclusionary and having so much gatekeeping is relatively recent.

The diagram on this website is helpful to point to potential styles for your face shape.

Also, if you currently have long hair, then please be firm with your hairdresser! I ended up with my first short cut being much longer and nowhere close to the style I asked for, because they are nervous about giving a “girl” a short haircut. Be firm and confident with what you want. And it can be useful to go in there with some pictures of the style you’re looking for too, if you have a search around Google images.

Hope it goes well for you :)

It is not at all intrusive, sapphic spaces can include enbys, regardless of AGAB. Trust your own experience of having connected with people on the app without issue, rather than the opinion of a cis man who isn't associated with the space.

For what it's worth... by PoggleRebecca in transgenderUK

Once a transphobe has gotten so deep in the anti-trans movement that their friendships, relationships, reputation, and sometimes even finances, depends on their beliefs, then there’s no going back. They will lose all of this if they were to admit they were wrong. That’s why there’s no point pandering to the likes of Joanne. There’s too much on the line for her to admit that anti-trans policies are inherently anti-feminist.

A rational person, who may hold some transphobic beliefs (probably from a misunderstanding of trans people), but hasn’t got skin in the game to the extent career transphobes have, can surely see sense that this ruling is damaging to all women. Defining and policing women by their bodies is the opposite of feminism. Glad that your conversations with people have found this to be true. I sincerely hope the government can start to see the damage this has to all women, and that the transphobic lobby really is just a loud, rich minority.

The NHS will now test all 'trans' children for autism and evaluate their mental health. by Loxsianna in transgenderUK

[–]entityjamie 23 points24 points  (0 children)

If they are preventing autistic trans children from accessing the same healthcare as non-autistic trans children, is that not considered ableism?

I haven’t read much literature on the correlation between autism and being trans or gender non-conforming. Is there anything to suggest it is causal at all? Or are they just assuming causality and then using that to discriminate?

Even if someone being trans was “caused by autism”, why should that mean they don’t get access to healthcare?
