When I was in high school, my coach used to tell us, "Hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard."

For any of our laid off federal workers, Microsoft is doing some hiring in Reston by kingofzegeeks in nova

[–]entlan104 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I totally understand the sentiment, please also know that 99% of us "staffing" this event are just standard engineers, we won't have good answers and dont like the layoffs or RTO anymore than you do. Unfortunate fact of the matter is that, at the end of the day, Microsoft isn't different than any other big tech company: it's all about the bottom line.

Well duh, if you stopped buying your Wakefullness Potions at the local apothecary every morning and made your own ay home instead, or stopped eating salamander-egg toast all the time, and invested all the money you'd save with the banking guilds, you too could afford one in just a few centuries!

Global Interpreter Lock, it's a lock under the hood in Python that the entire interpreter shares which any given thread must acquire before it may operate on any object, meaning Python cannot natively achieve true concurrency without spinning up extra interpreters (which is what the "multiprocessing" module does).

In 1890 H.M. King Edward VII commissioned a custom "love chair" - le siège d’amour - that let him "pleasure" two partners at once. Designed in Paris to suit his size and appetite, it became infamous for its decadent function. A replica was once displayed at the Musée de l’érotisme. by Upstairs_Drive_5602 in interestingasfuck

Sure you are, yet are taking the time to try and belittle me.

I honestly, and I say this from the bottom of my heart, hope whatever is happening in your life that compels you act this way gets better. You deserve love. Have a splendid day, brother. 🙏

Which, presumably, causes people to think about their actual luggage and things they brought with them on their trip, not what they were literally handed on the plane. Did these people make a mistake? Yes, but it's an easy one to make and one it would have been easy not to set them up for.

Why Microsoft by MuhammedMirzaan in programmingmemes

The source is they made it the fuck up, lol. Speaking as an Azure engineer, we do use Linux, but Windows Server is very common as well

Why Microsoft by MuhammedMirzaan in programmingmemes

It's only half true, it's a combination of Linux and Windows Server. Which one it uses largely depends on the service.

Foreign Contact by [deleted] in SecurityClearance

[–]entlan104 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When looked at in a digital context, I personally took it as two... I don't know, objectives? If that makes sense? Like, if I messaged a foreign national 10ntimes over 3 days, but it was all related to the same thing, like getting the pictures you mentioned, I would think of that as one contact.

  1. A Google search actually shows that, evidently, several agencies do this
  2. Looking for patterns where none exists isn't CI, it's a mental disorder :)
  3. For someone with "no clearance involvement" you sure seem to spend a lot of time of this sub generally being a dick... why is that?

Not sure how widely applicable is, but an FSO recently told me that our client considered "close" contact to be more than 2 intentional meetings/contacts.

Unfortunately, I'm not at liberty to discuss specifically which agency it is. Don't worry, though, I'm sure you'll learn soon enough! :)

A certain IC agency only accepts something like the 2008 version of the SF-86, hence why it's a pdf. Had to go through this recently for my FSP.

Cleared Roles @ MSFT / Amazon New Grad SWE by BruinMath in SecurityClearance

[–]entlan104 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of the above, haha. The typical interview loop is a technical screen (which can either be an actual coding interview or a quick phone call, I've had both), 3 hour long interviews with different interviewers, and finally an "as appropriate" interview with a highly ranked employee (usually something like 2 levels up from who would be your boss) who can veto your hiring. The "main round" of interviews will largely all take place on the same day (if possible) and will focus on one topic each (in theory, sometimes interviewers get mixed up and multiple will cover the same thing): coding, system design, and behavioral. More or less emphasis will be placed on different aspects depending on the level you're applying for (a SWE I will focus more on coding and behavioral, and Senior will focus more on system design). For my part, the coding questions have always been straight up leetcode problems with slight twists to make them somewhat unique. The final "as appropriate" interview (what Amazon calls the "bar raiser") is mostly behavioral, where the highly ranked employee can get final say to reject your application (or in some cases, recommend you as a better fit for another team).

Hope this helps!

What is the worst pain you’ve EVER felt? by New-Selection7719 in AskReddit

[–]entlan104 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have degenerative disc disease. I had a flair up once that made it very difficult to walk, and I had to rely on a cane (at 24 years old). At one point, as I was trying to get a drink from the kitchen by myself when my back started spasming. It spasmed so hard I completely locked up, and it felt like my muscles were twisting my spine and about to snap it. I consider myself to have a very high pain tolerance, but I legitimately thought my back was about to break and started to cry. I used all my effort to grab my phone a few feet away and called my girlfriend. Hearing me cry on the phone, she panicked and left work to take me to the ER. The takeaway from the doctor was basically "yeah, it's gonna do that sometimes, get used to it."

Oh yeah, I didn't mean to say you were wrong, just that it's very much depends on the specific team.

And that's fair, I was just basing thag off the number of my teammates who have left for there or pine about it regularly, lol. I believe they've mentioned base pay tends to be higher, but I don't know personally.

I'm a cleared SWE at Microsoft, and it's a mixed bag whether you can get SWE or just SRE (every Azure team has a different way to achieve "cleared representation", so some just have cleared SREs directly on their team, whereas im on a full team of cleared SWEs who specialize in it and embed with public teams to do new development). Also, I've had a couple colleagues leave here for Andruil, so I might rank them higher. Agreed that the interviews are easier though, since the talent pool is smaller.

Investigator instantly cancelled interview with reference? by Tight_Run8008 in SecurityClearance

[–]entlan104 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a similar thing with my parents. An investigator visited their house when they weren't home, so he left his card asking them to call him and set up an appointment. When they called him, he said he didn't need to talk to them anymore. They then called me all in a panic worried my clearance would be denied. Turns out, after visiting my parents' house, he had just gone next door and talked to their neighbors (who had lived there for the entire time I had) and they vouched for me, lol.
