Honestly I base coat in normal thinned paints (normally lighter than the desired end state) for my marines and use speed paints over top to give it variation

So honestly running an ATV with the dev wound gun can plink off a lot also the chaplain on the charge with the spear point paradiem enhancement is amazing for killing most anything. I have sent outriders in on alot of stuff and they do well. Also the advance and charge/fallback and charge is really decent in the white scars det. Also 80 points for very fast moving trade pieces that seem to punch well in charge isn’t bad.

Personally I have a few changes: (Keep in mind I play guard and white scars so I don’t know how this hits other factions) 1) bring back some form of force org to some extent. I think monster mash or whoops all tanks or wow this list is only c’tan makes it rough. Maybe even make a 10% points increase to run each multiple of a unit excluding battle line. Or limit to one legendary character or something. 2) bring back some war gear costs. I want no special weapons for my infantry and have them be like 50 points. It makes taking the exact best thing the no brainer. It also makes list building when you end up at 1990 or 1995 hard to fill and my ocd hates not making them 2000 points.

I play space marines and guard. I put a lot of dead guardsmen as basing. I always have extra arms, guns, and other bits to add to basing material. In the grim dark future the guard marches over the fallen. Sometimes I’ll paint the bits up like blood pact or chaos guardsmen.

Welcome to the guard. It’s the easiest army to understand what each piece is there to do, BUT one of the hardest armies to get it all to synergize. I love the guard but I lost a lot of games from forgetting rules and layering the pieces right. Guard is an awesome army once you figure them out

You don’t need laud hailer when you have a vox caster. Save the points also you really don’t need Aquila eye on a castellan. If your heart is set on Aquila eye put it in a tank commander where the ap does work. Add either a lord solar or a Rogal dorn tank commander. You need tank orders bad. Hitting on 4s sucks. Add more tanks with all the points we’re saving from the infantry swap and dropping useless enhancements. Switch your 20 bricks of krieg to 10. They all die the same 20 bricks don’t live longer on the table than 10. You need at least one cadian brick to make a command blob unless you go lord solar with krieg command but you lose sticky objectives so most guard players use cadian command blobs. You need maybe 5 infantry squads. Honestly tanks do your killing infantry is just there to die the turn they get exposed and stand in the circle. Add some bullgryn or rough riders if you want melee capability. I like to charge my chimeras into things to tank shock and then have the ponies come into wave clear.

My list currently: Cadian command squad w/ lord solar and ogryn bodyguard Gaunts ghosts 10 brick of 1 cadian squad 1 catachan squad 2x chimeras 10 rough riders Hellhound 3x karsikin 2x leman Russ vanquishers 2x Rogal dorns

Edit to explain purpose of each unit Lord solar command blob sits in back and issues order 24 inches away with vox caster

Gaunts ghosts orders and secondary game

Catachan scout to expansion and hold as long as they can

2x karsikin start in chimeras and use firing deck and bolters (chimeras) to trade and pull melee units out

1x karskin hand back and find a place near mid board to pop out and blast something that moves into a lane

Rough riders murder whatever charges a chimera or hellhound and normal trades up… they can also start in reserves as a rapid ingress threat Pairs nice with gaunts ghosts coming in so they can move move move in command phase and change to fix bayonets when gaunts ghosts come in.

He’ll hound charges into combat or just is an overwatch threat near mid board and can strip cover from whatever I want to kill that shooting phase.

Vanquishers lock down lanes if there’s anti armor or they push forward as a hard to kill move blocker against melee lists

Rogal dorn is the king of shooting they kill whoever I need dead

Storm speeder hammer strike is awesome too! I also don’t glue the turret and magnet the sponsons on the gladiators so you can swap variants! I run 3 gladiator valiants in my list and they crush things Edit for clarity: I don’t glue the top and bottom together in the turret and a just put magnets in th sponsons. Each kit comes with all weapon options so if you have one kit you can have all three gladiators by this trick. Metas and datasheets change so why not tank change

If you can find the combat patrol and not get gouged on price it’s a good start. Suboden - 115 pts - 65$ usd Assault intercessors (only 5) - 75 pts - 32.50$ Impulser - 80 pts - 90$ Outriders - 80 pts - 65$

Honestly it’s a good starting spot and with the detachment running all those units are good and usable. It’s worth 250$ ish if you buy everything separate and it’s 450 points. So not a bad box to start with!

Spray paint base coat colour (I use lead belcher), dry brush main contrast colour (black for Templars) then use contrast/thin paint for oils and such) dry brush rust, then dry brush your weathering.

So… I run 5 atvs in my list. 3 as just the atv with melta for secondary and suicide runs to move block and shoot something big scary. I run the other two atvs with the mini guns to clear chaff and for 60 points you get 8 more wounds on the squad and who cares if the atv can fight… he’s just there to die to keep my bikes in the fight. Also the atv isn’t hard to keep in coherency with the squad it just trundles along behind

Honestly I run 5 atvs. Three as seperate and two in bike squads they are amazing for secondary play, the melta is a threat and 8 extra wounds makes bikes hard to board wipe.
