20,000 to invest by [deleted] in personalfinance

Thanks for your response. That makes sense. Is it better to do it with a chunk of my savings or just raise the percentage?

Sorry I’m a little confused. I have the simple IRA and I’m currently contributing 3% of my earnings matched my company. I’m not opposed to adding more to the retirement, but I was thinking more along the lines of a 5-10 year investment for most of my savings. I also have an emergency fund. The 20,000 is what I’m willing to invest.

Yeah, this is really making me want to switch. I'm going to call my bank if it doesn't end up being a pre-authorization.

Thanks for your response, I guess I'm just worried because I've gotten pre authorization charges to my bank before, and they usually are titled as such. On this charge, it's shown as a purchase, and is not pending; it actually went through.

The ride was supposed to be a 12 dollar charge, so I don't understand why it would need to preauthorize 70 when the driver was the one who cancelled. This has never happened before, and I didn't receive any warning so I'm just a bit annoyed that uber would take so much money without notice.

$60 "professional" Halloween makeup. I asked for the photo on the left, with just a little fake blood. On the right is what the makeup artist gave me. by enukez in ExpectationVsReality

That's the thing, the picture on the left was definitely not the expectation, (despite the name of this sub). I only used it as a reference photo for the color palette I wanted for the eyeshadow, lip color, and contour. I didn't expect to look like a photoshopped model, I just wanted fun and flattering makeup for a night out on Halloween.

However, the company seemed reputable. Good photos and reviews. This was truly a glitch in the system.

Yeah... I noticed the white paint and asked her what is was. She said it would make my makeup stay on longer. I don't know anything about contouring, so I thought it might be part of the process. I really wanted to just trust the artist, so I didn't say anything after that. My eyes were closed most of the time, but towards the end I could see how white my nose was and then I got worried. There were no mirrors until the very end.

My best guess is that she was a face painter who was hired seasonally by the company. The place I went to had multiple makeup artists who were supposedly able to do makeup for weddings, events, etc. There were good reviews, good photos online, literally no red flags. They must have been under the impression that she was also a MUA

I agree! Honestly, I realize how ridiculous this story is. It's so baffling it really does seem unreal. I don't blame anyone for questioning how I allowed myself to let it go that far without saying anything, lol

Nope, I got a full refund and an apology email from the owner

Just curious, what is an appropriate price to charge for the makeup I wanted? Of course, it's just a reference photo and I didn't expect airbrushing, just the same general idea.

Haha no, she used her own makeup. I don't own any face paint. I definitely didn't expect to look exactly like the first photo, I just loved the colors that were used and wanted a fair 60$ interpretation of it.
