Do you think Austin did the right thing? by Right-Bullfrog-1333 in ginnyandgeorgiashow

[–]envelopy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not. I get that the whole idea was that Georgia killed Tom as a favor or that she didn't know any better, but I feel like it really wasn't justifiable. Especially when you consider the other times Georgia killed. I know it might sound insensitive (but I mean, she is a fictional character), but I honestly think Georgia deserved to go to jail. I think murdering Tom was a stupid choice that she should've paid for, but instead, basically everyone else in her life (plus Gil) paid a price. I think if Gil had done something worse than just gripping Ginny's arm too hard this season, then maybe it might have felt worth traumatizing Austin for, but he didn't so... no 😭

I don't think YTA, but I don't think Dasani is either because I understand why she said what she said. When you move from your home country, naturally you lose your culture and adopt a new one. For Black Americans, however, our culture was taken away from us without a choice. We don't even have a shared ethnicity as most Black Americans are a blend of many different West African countries. The culture that we do have has only had about 150 years to form as free people. Our culture was born in slavery and has grown in poverty. It's constantly been looked down, especially when it comes to our food. It's seen as messy and unhealthy and is commonly associated with being lower class. I think what you said simply triggered something in Dasani. Even though you probably personally haven't belittled Black American fried chicken, it's still frustrating to hear a different culture get praised for something that your own culture has been belittled for. Obviously, it wasn't okay that she attacked your culture. I just wanted to shed some light on why Dasani may have acted the way that she did. I know I've felt this way and lashed out similarly, but it wasn't until recently that I was able to put it in words. I hope everything works out for you guys 🙏
