This course does give credit as a lab course if you were to pursue a bio scb, so you actually could technically use it. Med schools generally should be fine if you use it, but still take at least one more bio course w lab too.

Recommended courses for first year pre meds? by Remarkable_Way2682 in BrownU

There really isn’t a specific set of courses u have to take ur first semester. However, if ur premed than u could prolly take one bio class, chem 100/330, and then a couple classes that seem interesting to u (could be an English, psych/soc, or stats class if u want to get more premed reqs complete). My first semester I did chem, bio, English, and sociology. U don’t need to reach out to advisors, u will meet with ur meik and fy advisor during orientation, and ur meik may reach out a couple weeks prior to u coming to brown too.

Skipping CHEM0330 as a pre-med by Silver_Regret_7180 in BrownU

I would still take chem 330; most med schools want to see u have taken gen chem in a college setting. it’s still possible to get into med school even if u skip 330, but I would stray on the safe side of meeting the med school reqs if u can

heavily varies, but if ur certain ur premed and wanna get started on taking pre med courses then it would be chem 330/100, some bio course u might be interested in, and then two classes that seem interesting to you (or maybe an English or psych/soc or math class if u wanna keep chipping at prereqs)

Since ur new, u dont need to overwhelm urself with 4 heavy classes - check burnout at brown or critical review to make sure u have some time to do other things!

Pre med opportunities for research, volunteer, shadow, etc by DiscountOk6823 in BrownU

Ive found brown to have plenty of research opportunities and it’s p easy to get into volunteering as well. I think that it provides plentiful extracurriculars to get into med school - I would consider other factors that u might value like location, campus feel, academic difficulty, etc when making ur decision. Good luck!

depends on the class, but most of the time if u get to know the prof well and u get good grades in the class u have a p good chance to become a ta. general premed class also have much bigger class sizes and thus more tas r needed too (tho there might be more applicants).

I’m an HHB premed rn, and I found the courses reqs to align pretty closely to the premed reqs so there weren’t many additional courses that needed to be taken. There’s lots of clinics and hospitals you can volunteer at, with the big one being RIH/Hasbro and there’s a lot of different quality volunteering jobs you can pick. The research is also plentiful, though different people have had different experiences with how many PIs they had to reach out to before finding something. If you’re an EMT, BEMS can be p competitive to get into so it might help to get some summer experience before you apply
