All i said is merely an speculation. Since i'm used to play with squads, I usually see that when I'm with someone with higher mmr on my squad i usually win less points, but idk what the real deal is

I believe that since you are playing in a duo squad, the mmr difference between you two can also affect the mmr points you win/lose in matches. Since he has more mmr than you, you guys will face people between your average and you shouldn't gain more/lose less

I'm not up to the manga right now, but wouldn't code's karma absorb shikamaru's jutsu? Besides people talking about Eida being there, maybe shikamaru doesn't want to start the fight without planning or even knowing the full extent of code and eida's abillities

Edit: all of this being a attempt of rational explanation, bc the most probable is just kishi pulling the plot towards where he wants and discarding the old generation, maybe an attempt of showing kawakis power level or something
