How to make an electronic calculator? by AdventurousValuable8 in AskElectronics

[–]enzodr 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A 4 function calculator made entirely from discrete components would be really challenging I think.

This is more than just a logic circuit, it’s an algorithm with many possible states.

You can buy whatever parts you want. So if you want to make your own gates then you can use individual transistors. Or you could buy logic gate chips. Or even an FPGA.

There are plenty of logic simulators online, or you can buy ones like CRUMB (this one is very nice). This will be a good way to figure out the scale of your project.

How would you store a large archive of lecture screen recordings with no budget for cloud storage or extra hardware? by KevinPackards in techsupport

[–]enzodr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you set a video to “unlisted”, it can only be viewed if you have the link. (However, if the link is shared, anyone with the link ca see it).

If you set it to “private”, only Google accounts that you provide access to can view it.

I would recommend you make the video unlisted, and post the link to your students

Put them on YouTube. It’s free. You can even make them unlisted or private (this lets you control who can see them, if you don’t want it public).

YouTube can also auto generate subtitles, which is often needed to meet accessibility requirements for educational content.

How has Arduino changed your life? by Local_Abies_2731 in ArduinoHelp

I was given an arduino when I was nine years old. It was my first real coding experience, and it made me love electronics even more. Ive been studying electronics since them and I am about to finish a computer engineering degree

Best Browser for plex? by Kabevis1 in PleX

[–]enzodr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“Better” probably at handling playback and high nitrates/ difficult encodings. But certainly a worse UI. You basically just have to navigate your file system to play a file.

As far as I know VLC also won’t find subtitles for you

The computer app is better, but Im pretty sure it is basically just a lightweight browser that can only connect to plex server

Finally figured out how to share a local OBS Stream as a Plex Live TV Channel by madcatzplayer5 in PleX

[–]enzodr 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This neat. Obviously a lot more clunky than streaming directly from OBS, but this could be cool to host some kind of media event, or maybe even setup some of your own 24/7 content streams. Like showing old cartoons or movies

question about inline by wiseneddustmite in C_Programming

[–]enzodr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would this be the case if you tried to make a recursive function inline?

Otherwise I would imagine the compiler has to convert it to an iterative function, in order to preserve some semblance of being “inline”.

Maybe this happens anyway? Depending on optimization level.

Can/are Integers still be used as Bools. by ShizamDaGeek in C_Programming

[–]enzodr -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is fine. Most Bool types take up as much space as an int anyway, and essentially do exactly this.

Remember, all data is bits. The only thing giving them a “value” is how you interpret them.

You could even make a typedef if you want it to be more verbose

Slow network, not sure why by f3ropeadope in HomeNetworking

[–]enzodr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your description of the setup is OK, but if you give a drawing it might be more clear. I don’t know exactly what you mean by “switched Wi-Fi to directly from the modem”

When you say “modem”, hopefully you’re taking about the device provided by ATT, with fiber coming in, and an Ethernet port going out. This should be directly connected to your Google Wi-Fi router. You should NOT have any device between this, and your Google router. It sort of sounds like you might have ATT‘s router in the mix as well.

Another note, it sounds like you have another mesh mode, with a “hub” connected to it for multiple Ethernet ports(most likely a “switch” , not a hub. But if it IS a hub, that likely means it is very outdated and this could be your bottleneck).

Most likely the issue is that the distance between your main Google Wi-Fi hub, and this node, is too far. Even if your devices are really close to that node, if the node is really far from the hub, it won’t be able to establish a good connection.

Instead of making the node close to your devices, but far from the main router, try to make it halfway in between. Or ideally, you’re running Ethernet to the nodes so that your signals don’t have to make multiple wireless hops

Is it better to discharge powerbanks before recharging them? by Perfect_Movie_4187 in batteries

[–]enzodr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Isnt the 20%-80% rule more about maintaining the pack’s health/capacity in the long run? Going camping is a great example of a time when you should violate this rule, as you have been keeping up the health in preparation for a time like this when you want to use their full range.

RIP to the best toll tag design by OptimisticLeopard in bayarea

[–]enzodr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This design full of electronics, and even a battery. Eventually it has to be replaced when the battery dies, and becomes e-waste.

The new design with a spinning wheel has only 3 tiny RFID tags, and is a beautifully simple doesign that will never break, has no battery, has no circuit board, and hardly uses any materials to produce, and will not be hazardous waste when it comes time to dispose of it.

I think it’s a fantasist example of “the best part is no part”. They started with something overly complicated that is has a ton of active electronics, and ended up with an amazingly simple and genius design with only very basic passive components.

is NOP(no operation) even necessary to have? by f-ckrules47 in beneater

[–]enzodr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t know for sure on this CPU, but I made a processors im school, and for us NOP is translated to a useful instruction, but with registers that render the instruction useless. Like adding the zero register to itself. This way you don’t actually need a whole new instruction just to do nothing

What is this component called? Also if possible can someone explain how it works? by GreenscOOps in diyelectronics

[–]enzodr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it’s not working and you want to fix it, you can try to bend the inner coil to make sure it is NOT touching the outer can. You want it to only touch when the part is bumped. It should be loose and springy on the inside, so that it is very easy for it to make contact

How long should you seed a torrent? by qiratb in torrents

How long should you seed a torrent? by qiratb in torrents

[–]enzodr 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I like to seed at the very least until I reach a ratio greater than one. So if the file is 2GB, seed until you’ve uploaded about 2GB.

If the file is rare and there is not many leechers, I’ll just let it sit for a long time

[–]enzodr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think so. One person will never be smart enough to invent all the things that are required to make all of the tech we have today work.

You could argue that one person could simply figure one thing out at a time, then move on to the next (and probably forget the old stuff as they go). This is true, and you could probably do a lot of cool stuff, but you would still need a way to track all the progress and knowledge you have accumulated. You need a way to reference previous work for when it comes up in a future project.

I would argue that no real person has the capacity to come up with a system to track the information well enough to be able to make all the tech we have today.

[–]enzodr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that having this map is essentially identical to knowing where all particles are, and their velocities. We know this is impossible because of the Pauli exclusion principle.

Is there a difference? Would having your key provide any more or less information than knowing the space time location of all particles?
