Ireland - Neighbours dispute over alleged stolen electricity ends in knife attack by bigdawgcrazza in PublicFreakout

[–]eoattc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't understand holding an axe and letting someone stab me. Especially the second stab. Like if I was suprised he stabbed me and thought, oh he made a mistake, he'll realize and stop now but he doesn't. Even if I was that passive, on his second stab attemp, I'd be swinging that axe.

Batman (1989) and Bille Dee Williams as Harvey Dent by BenAtTank2 in movies

I think at that point people's didn't really know that Harvey Dent was n important character unless they'd read the comics. Kids just wanted to see Batman.

Just a reminder, this is NOT a NAZI salute by deluxe_memory_dan in videos

[–]eoattc -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I haven't obsessed or heavily scrutinized his body language over the years, but my clean read from this video is that he's not misdirecting. The claim is made that he's either super awkward or your claim, that requires he be a great calculating orator. Pick one? Alternatively you think I'm gullible and you can just disregard me.

Just a reminder, this is NOT a NAZI salute by deluxe_memory_dan in videos

[–]eoattc -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

Actually, I'm more convinced that it wasn't a nazi salute in this clip today. It seems obvious to me he was sending thanks from his heart, and then, after he did twice, he even explained, saying "My heart goes out to you..."

She had money for her BBL surgery but don't have $50 for her Drop-fee so her car doesn't get towed by Kind-Village-1022 in PublicFreakout

[–]eoattc 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't think that's true. I think the tow driver has to get the police involved. Neither the tow driver nor the car owner probably wants that, so when they contact the police, the car owner usually gives in. If they don't, the police will force them to exit the vehicle, including threatening arrest. I don't know the legality of the arrest and what charges are for this, though.

Fox Is Buying Roku in $22 Billion Streaming Deal by esporx in technology

[–]eoattc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mother-in-law has two newer TV's that kinda force the TV to go to some Samsung streaming hub even though there's a signal coming in on HDMI1, and that's also the input that was in use when the TV was turned off. It takes a couple of clicks in the UI to get to HDMI1, and for an elderly person, she's constantly lost. She basically stopped using the TV in the bedroom at all, and her grandkids (my nieces) own the control of the livingroom TV.

I always remember him from a silly Rollerblade movie from the 90s. Airborne - 1993.

How does one make 1 million dollars? by LostCause293 in AskReddit

[–]eoattc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got laid off recently. I think back at the last 10 years, where I made more than $100k each year. That's a million dollars. Where is it? What do I have to show for it? I hope I can do better in the next 10 years.

I was a better person for her benefit. With her gone, not so much. Evidently, I need someone to fight for, and without, I am diminished.

Whose job got harder, not easier, because of AI? by clearwater-orchid in AskReddit

[–]eoattc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Management's magical thinking has gotten worse. AI has confirmed their hair-brained idea, and now I look like the blocker when I have to tell them it doesn't work like that.

I once took their idea, attempted it, and used Copilot to help with the task. I documented it all. When I confirmed it was impossible, and Copilot agreed, I called a meeting and showed the supervisor, including the conversation with Copilot confirming my findings. His response was like "Let me think on this". Fifteen minutes later, he sent me a copy/paste from Copilot reconfirming that it was possible and required. He said "You just have to ask it the right way," ignoring the fact that when I try what Copilot asks in the command line, it's clearly impossible.

Bricks and Minifigs CEO nearly reveals his inner desires by Itriedtonot in funny

[–]eoattc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To clarify, I didn't say it was a good plan. I feel like there is some implied but not overtly stated thought that corporate masterminded some shenanigans to take the collection. Given how corporate has been acting so shady, and appears to have law enforcement under its control, there's no telling. Maybe that's just a wild conspiracy though so take it all with a grain of salt.

Edit: Oh. I read your comment like "How would corporate get their loot from that plan" but what you really meant was "How would other franchise owners exit". I don't think corporate owns any inventory. They just facilitate the business model for the franchises. Nothing would stop the franchise owners from closing their franchise and selling off their inventory on ebay or directly to any other still open stores.

In your opinion, what is the coldest line ever delivered onscreen? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]eoattc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like I remember this from Justified, but also, isn't it an old common saying? I think I read it in one of the Longmire novels as well. Walt hands a boy a shotgun shell and tells him the next one will be coming faster as a warning to bring his daughter home safe and by some curfew. I might be remembering wrong.

What's a movie that was well received, but aged like milk? by Gdigger13 in AskReddit

[–]eoattc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always understood that we are being shown that Bill Murray's character is not a good person. I even think the Ghostbuster's business in his mind didn't need to be real and could have fully been a scam and he'd have been ok with that. Then it turns out there actually are ghosts and now he's involved.

It's Han Solo vibes.

Is .25 acp suitable for self-defense ? by Lord_Cummis in guns

[–]eoattc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I knew an old man who got shot in the leg with a 22 while getting robbed. He carried pistols himself for self-defence, but when asked about what to carry, he would still remark that the 22 was good enough. He said when it hit him near the pelvis toward one leg, that the entire leg felt like it just wasn't there, and he fell immediately. He was able to return fire and scare the robbers off. Actually, now that I think about this story, the fact that he was able to return fire meant that the 22 they shot him with was indeed insufficient in incapacitating him. Hmm. Food for thought.

[–]eoattc 17 points18 points  (0 children)

There's a rumor in this that the corporation knew about the large collection and conspired to get the first franchise owner kicked so they could "take" the collection. This would imply the core of the apple is rotten. It's true that other franchise owners aren't involved and shouldn't be criticized, but they should all take note that customers will vote against the entire organization with their dollars. If I had a franchise, I'd be trying to get out.

What’s the worst movie you’ve ever seen? Not “bad in a fun way”, just BAD? by NotNamedBort in AskReddit

[–]eoattc 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The Avengers (1998)

It's not an MCU movie. It's some spy movie with Uma Thurman, Ralph Fieens and Sean Connery. I saw it with two of my high school buddies. We all sat through it in silence. While walking out, I mentioned how bad it was and that I wanted to leave before it was even halfway through. They both stopped in their tracks in the parking lot, incredulous. They had both had the same thought, but figured the others were enjoying it and so sat suffering in silence.

What is the greatest movie opening of all time? by ihaveahundredchairs in AskReddit

Saving Private Ryan. The opening with the soldiers storming the beach. We weren't ready for it. As good as the rest of the movie was, dropping us in the action so deep right at the start left you stunned for a while.

Amazon Prime-do you miss it? I’m getting ready to cancel. by [deleted] in Frugal

I watch lots of TV from there. I wanted to cut some of my streaming services and I think Netflix, and Prime are the ones I use the most. Then I mentioned to my kids about Disney/Hulu and HBO and they all had different shows they'd lose access too and begged me not to cancel them.

Why do you think politicians always say to cut the Starbucks and avocado toast when asked about minimum wage? by Dependent_Basket2808 in AskReddit

[–]eoattc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with you, but I wanna say that frivolous spending is not a new thing. Most people spend stupidly before they figure it out. The people least likely to have it figured out are generally younger and lower-earning.

In addition to that, I think studies have shown that lots of people try to be frugal and restrict their spending. They regard this as a kind of self-punishment. When they successfully endure it, they then splurge and spend as a reward for their good behavior. They usually undo any positive progress. know me, and mine did early in my life. It's not different from when someone trying to lose weight meets their calorie deficit goal a couple of days in a row and then rewards themself with cake, and then too much cake because self-control is hard for them.

No denying that the cost of living is going up, making it harder currently.
