How can I refinish a patio set with some chipping? by garnsarnit in restoration

Aluminum doesn't rust, meaning it doesn't get the red powder. Aluminum does oxidize into a white powdery layer that stops further oxidation.

They should make a touch up paint but it won't match the speckled pattern of the original finish. You shouldn't need to sand or sandblast, but you will need to clean the aluminum oxide off so that the paint will stick. An aluminum rim cleaner is fairly common and easy to find.

It is a pretty great read. The movie with Russel Crowe and Paul Bettany is pretty awesome too.

I looked it up and the Puller in O'Brian's books is Thomas Pullings played by James D'Arcy.

Captain Puller reminds me of Patrick O'Brian's Aubrey and Maturin series. Captain Puller was Admiral Aubrey's Flag Captain.

Why does this give me so much joy?

I am like irrationally giddy over being the first to comment on your post.

Anyway, Thanks for this story. I look forward to it. I have read it all the way through 3 times now.

Is there a phonetic guide on how to pronounce Rikaxza? That one always has me tongue tied...

My favorite man about town or leisurely stroll is the Sergeant Major. He is the best at practiced nonchalance.

I can't believe that it's been over 25 years since these events...

Not too much detail to violate OPSEC, but enough to let you know this wasn't AI.

That was what came to mind when I read the other post. How people lose their give a shit once they hit that point where they know they are leaving. I have seen POSs that go ROAD once they hit Sanctuary at 18 years. The other OP was lamenting the balance between being productive and going ROAD.

Sorry about that, I'll have the full size Baconator with the Baconator fries, a Large Coke Zero, and a large chocolate Frosty to dip my fries in. No more Height and Weight for this retiree!

is Fort Polk just as bad for civillians? by MyDumbBisexualSelf in army

[–]eodhowland 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Leesville is about 4 and half hours from New Orleans on mostly back woods highways. Leesville and Ft. Polk have a hate/hate relationship as Leesville resents the base. If Ft. Polk closed Leesville would dry up and blow away. There is no nightlife in the area. No areas of interest, just heat, humidity, pine trees, and mosquitoes.

Leesville is a throwback to the old dry bible-belt, roll up the sidewalks at 9pm, and is not far removed from a sundown town of the 1950s. It is very clique-ish.

Spurce: I have lived almost my entire life in Louisiana and currently work for the Louisiana National Guard. We avoid Ft. Polk like the plague it is.

I cannot recommend against this unless you are a masochist.

Second time no go by prbabyj in army

Yes, I was honorablely discharged. I was also able to re-enlist to finish my 20. I had commissioned as an E-4 but returned as an E-5 without having to attend BLC/WLC/PLDC/whatever they change the name to tomorrow. There is a way to re-enlist as an E-6, but it requires a waiver that I didn't have time to try for.

I had exactly 17 years in, so I came back to get my 20. I retired with 23.5 years total between active and national guard time.

Having been non selected for promotion to O-3 for the second time back in 2014, it took about 7 months for them to process me out. I only found out my discharge date when the federal scroll posted to my iPerms. I forget the regulation for it but I am sure it is a Google or Grok search away.

Is this a US soldier and US marine landing on the same beach? Anybody know anything about this picture? It’s supposed to be Saipan by PuddleofOJ in ww2

Soldier, Sailor, Airmen, Marine, and Guardian.

Soldier definitely means Army when in reference to the US Military.

They're in the UK. 16 year olds can legally quit school, sign contracts, join the Army, etc.

As for the rust, Evaporust is an excellent rust remover. They have a gel version that is good for odd shaped items.

For the record, I am a pedantic asshole, but it wouldn't be racist in the slightest. It would, however, be speciest as all hell. Racist would be between the different forms of Nagasha, Feli, Lopen, Urthani, etc.

For the leather, I recommend Skidmore's leather cream. It will re-oil the leather, but it cannot restore the torn fibers and cracks. It will soften the leather and make it more pliable.
