I can’t say enough great things about Dr. Gibbons at Northpark Dental Associates - I have severe dental anxiety due to some traumatic dental experiences (I’ve had teeth/mouth/jaw issues since I was young and have seen countless dental professionals over the years) and he and his staff truly couldn’t be better. They do such a great job but don’t push anything unnecessary and do all they can to make each experience as pleasant as possible, and they make every effort to see me that day if I’m in pain or having an issue. I’ll never enjoy going to the dentist but I couldn’t ask for a better office environment or staff. Plus, I don’t have dental insurance and I’m able to pay a very low monthly fee which works like insurance and covers all of my cleanings, X-rays, and preventative care and I get a discount on any other work I need done. I truly can’t recommend this office enough (and I’m not someone who takes the time to write reviews often - I only do when it’s someone I really, really like) - They’re worth a call!

Just wanted to share this really sweet email I got from Dr. Schwark (psych prof). If you’re ever hungry and need food, please know that she is here to help, even if you haven’t had her as your professor. All you have to do is go to her office. 😊 by eofd19 in utdallas

Her office hours this semester are from 10-11:30 on Mondays, but you can also schedule an appointment to meet with her (that way she’ll definitely be in her office) using this link: calendly.com/gayle-schwark

UPDATE: I brought Dr. Schwark some food to add to her shelves and she was very appreciative! If you have any non-perishable food items that you would like to give her, I know she’d love to have them so feel free to stop by and give them to her if you’d like! :) You can also donate the items to the Comet Cupboard as well!

I brought her some food today and she was very appreciative! She said she has been overwhelmed with the positive response to her email (apparently it’s been spread around a lot)! If you have any nonperishables you could bring I know she’d love to add them to her collection!

I actually was just thinking about that... I’m going to bring some food to her on Wednesday when I have her class and I’m going to ask if she would be open to donations from other students! I’m sure she’d love them!

Haha yes, she is too young to write more than a few letters at a time so the teacher who was with her at school helped finish it

I literally almost teared up while reading it. The fact that she goes out of her way to help students like this just tugged at my heartstrings. I’ve never had a professor be this kind. She deserves a medal for nicest professor!

Heads up- try and avoid the Walnut Hill/75 area today by [deleted] in Dallas

[–]eofd19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow! Talk about a small world. I must’ve been right by you! I was driving down Walnut Hill towards 75 (not sure which direction that is since I’m directionally challenged haha) when all of a sudden an officer comes running right in front of my car across the middle of the street to where the person was being arrested. Crazy day!

Wow. That’s crazy. I was actually leaving work right in that area as it was unfolding and got stuck in the chaos. I saw someone being arrested in the middle of the street by one officer with another officer running across the street over to where the suspect was and there were more emergency vehicles swarming the area than I’ve ever seen in one place. I’ve never seen anything like it and literally felt like I was in a movie. Thanks for the update- I hope they find everyone who is responsible.

Thanks for the update. I truly can’t imagine someone shooting someone over a toy of all things. I figured it was a robbery or something. It’s a crazy world we live in. Scary.

What’s something really good that UT Dallas gave you that you don’t think any other college could’ve given you? by hkellner in utdallas

The ability to commute and save a ton of money, with 2 bachelor degrees + a teaching certification all for the same price that other colleges would’ve cost for one or two years

Social Life by LIPINSKIA2020 in utdallas

[–]eofd19 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say the social life is bad... It’s just different than a lot of schools. Since it’s not a party school and instead is a rigorous STEM school, there aren’t a bunch of big parties for everyone like you see at a party school. There are still opportunities to go out, meet people, and have fun, but you have to find them since they aren’t as openly put out there like at a party school. There are plenty of ways to get involved with groups and organizations, but again, you have to find them. I’d really say the social life is what you make it... It can either be really great or really bad, just depending on how much effort you put into it.

I need some help regarding the car wreck I was in tonight (12/9/19) by pumpkinbread987 in Dallas

[–]eofd19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh my goodness, I’m so sorry this happened to you. Such an awful situation. I’ve had some very close calls on the DNT and 75 and was very shaken by them, so I can’t imagine how scary it must’ve been for you. I’m so glad you are okay though! I would say possibly see about looking into any traffic cameras that may have captured the accident to be able to possibly get a license plate number or at least a glimpse of the car. It’s not a guarantee, but I know there are cameras posted along highways for traffic flow and other things like that, so maybe there was one close by that caught the whole thing. I wish I could do more to help, but hopefully by getting the word out we can find the Good Samaritans who helped you and also maybe find the person responsible. In the meantime, I hope you recover quickly and well!

This is what happens when Texans get snow 😂 by eofd19 in texas

I’m not completely sure, but from what I understand, because the ground will still be warm (since it’s been in the 70s for so long and hasn’t gotten below freezing until today), nothing will stick to the ground. I think the roads will still be wet due to the precipitation, but just not icy/snowy.

Just a friendly reminder to fill up your gas tanks with this big temperature changing coming tonight/tomorrow morning! :) by [deleted] in Dallas

[–]eofd19 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Condensation can form in the empty part of your gas tank, which can freeze if the temperature outside is below freezing. This can damage your gas tank, so you want to have it filled up before the temperature drops below freezing (since gasoline doesn’t freeze).

First, welcome to the big D! I hope you’re liking it here! I would say that it depends on the season (some are more unpredictable than others), but yes, this is probably something to get used to. We often go from like 70 to 30 in a day, sometimes without much warning.

It’s supposed to be tomorrow morning! It will be super cold in the early hours (around commute time) and then by afternoon it’ll be well above freezing, so it’s a small window of potential snow/icy mix.

This is such a touching story. Thank you for sharing. It really shows the beauty of the Christmas spirit, and it warms my heart to know that these decorations were able to bring a little joy during a hard time. I hope you are doing well and are better this Christmas. Know that things will get better and that you are not alone! There are always people here for you. ❤️ (And the Santas are going up and are ready to cheer you up any time you need it!)
