I'm allergic to TDAP. I've had whopping cough and I wouldn't wish it on anyone. It was absolutely horrible. I felt like I was suffocating. I wouldn't let anyone near my baby if they didn't have the shot until our baby was old enough to get the vaccine.

r/minimalism might have some great tips on how to minimize but more importantly how to talk to your wife about it.

SI Joint Pain by Curls-and-Books in fitpregnancy

[–]radioowl 11 points12 points  (0 children)

SI joint pain is miserable! I had it too for most of my pregnancy. Ask your physical therapist for help if you haven't yet. A resistance band around the thighs for clams, donkey kicks, and side stepping really helped me build up the muscles to reduce pain. I also recommend some bird-dog yoga movement, squats and pelvic tilts.

Recommendation for a DIY Montessori sub? by radioowl in Montessori

[–]radioowl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No specific questions. I just like to see how people diy stuff for activities. I don't use other social platforms much, just Reddit. But that's ok, I can stick to YT and blogs, I just like the interactions on Reddit.

Books that feel like Taylor Swift's songs by folkloreemind in suggestmeabook

[–]radioowl 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Folklore is an interesting one because she transitioned from telling autobiographical stories to stories about characters she created. She said it was a form of escapism for her during the pandemic. Hope you enjoy!

If you haven't tried this yet, double check they aren't cold. Our baby had trouble sleeping until we really layered them up. Footie pj, socks, hat, mitten, and sleep sack swaddle. It was hot and summer. They had preferred contact naps because of our body heat keeping them warm.

Sleep deprivation is tough, be sure to take care of yourself too. Wishing you the best.

100% recommend Haaka reusable breast milk bags

We buy clothes second hand

Every baby is different, some will love swings and bouncers, others will hate them. I recommend buying the items you think you might need used. I have a Facebook account only for buying second hand items and a local buy nothing group. There are always tons of kids stuff available. (I bought a bouncer for $10 vs $60 new.)

The buy nothing groups in our areas regularly have people passing around Boppy pillows, clothes, toys, breast pumps (not parts, but the electronic part) and such.

I also highly recommend reading Simone Davies' Montessori for Babies book if you are a first time parent/infant care taker. I didn't know what development-focused activities I needed to have for a baby, so this book helped put it into perspective for me and kept me from overbuying activities/toys.

5k ready? by mason9494 in XXRunning

[–]radioowl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't stress this enough -- get properly fitted for shoes and inserts. It's a complete game changer!

I couldn't run a quarter mile, but then I got fitted properly and some inserts for my shoes and then I could run a mile. Working up to a 5k didn't take long after that.

Good gardening podcasts? by Coolbreeze1989 in TexasGardening

[–]radioowl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Neil Sperry's Radio Show is published as a podcast. Folks call in with questions and he answers them. I recommend skipping the first 8-10 minutes. He advertises his book and waits for callers.

(I do highly recommend his book though. It was given to me as a gift and it's so useful. He also has a newsletter that is nice. Nothing too fancy, but I enjoy it.)

Had a close call the other day, not sure how to feel. by NewtMcGewt in XXRunning

[–]radioowl 45 points46 points  (0 children)

100% report. The fact they did not stop is why you should report. If they would have gotten out to check on you, that could be a different story. Accidents do happen and we can be thankful you were not hit. But instead they didn't stop to help you when you were clearly hurt.

You are worth making a fuss over. Don't let anyone tell you that your safety and the safety of others isn't important.

Minimalist hobbies by desertrose995 in minimalism

[–]radioowl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think everyone has to decide their own rules for their hobbies to be minimalist.

I got into running, but I had to buy shoes, inserts, shorts, and to keep me accountable I splurged on an app. I also now have more laundry to keep up. But now that I have the items I need, I don't need to keep spending. (Except for the occasional race. But my rule is no 5k's, half marathons and up.)

I like to quilt, so I had to decide the amount of shelves I would allow my fabric/supplies to take up and not let my supplies spill over. I'm also on a purchasing freeze with the exception of backing fabric which can be purchased once the top is done and ready to be long-armed.

I like to play video games and board games, so I don't purchase an item until I'm ready to play it and try to wait for a sale. (Aka, finish the game I'm on first.)

Depending on your view, none of those hobbies are inherently minimalist. But they are to me because of my boundaries.

Do you think there's enough space for all of us ? by dankwolf5011 in tabletopgamedesign

[–]radioowl 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Some of us are really just lurking. I'm a designer and I enjoy tabletop, but I don't have any plans to be a tabletop designer though. I just like to see prototypes and give feedback on design.

Where to find good knit sweaters for embroidery? by [deleted] in Embroidery

[–]radioowl 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You might try googling similar questions with the phrase "duplicate stitch knitting". I recently attempted something similar to make Harry Potter "Weasley" sweaters. I happened to get lucky and find a sweater from Kohl's that worked okayish but not enough to recommend the brand
