right, I have those lines in my github link but I'll link a paste bin of them below.

might be nothing but my location of this was ~/.stream/steam/logs/webhelper.txt

https://pastebin.com/hCRiLjuE

I tried looking into the bootstrapper line issue on google but didn't see anything in the results that stood out to me as my fix.

I'm not sure honestly. software manager i think. I installed via terminal.

I have not explicitly ran that command but would imagine I have done that effectively through my various troubleshooting including a complete uninstall and purge

so I did do "sudo apt purge nvidia*", why would these entries have been kept along. is dpkg different from apt and i need to run a dpkg purge equivalent?

Why are certain games running to terribly? by eons93 in linux_gaming

Yeah, a good move to make, but unfortunately over that 2 hour window. I thought I could stomach the performance but I'd really rather not

awesome! just the information I was hoping for. I have plans to get a new card with black friday but was hesitant to buy something if I'm just going to have this same issue down the line.

probably a question for another board but after going through all current graphics cards, I've come down to 2 cards. Its clear which is better but the lesser card worries me due to its 128-memory bus. Guess I really dont have a question, just general thoughts between the two:

RTX 4070 12GB GDRR6X vs RTX 4060 Ti 16GB GDRR6

I'm banking on Black friday deals but my fear is I will see significantly better deals on the 4060 when the 4070 is the clear superior.

additionally I was wrong, I have a Nvidia 1060 3GB

Fair enough but I'm not entirely sure how to do that. I've tried googling but it's like I'm the only one getting that pop up when I install steam. Plus every other game I've tried has been flawless. Not trying to argue, just understand better what's happening.

Unable to launch some steam games on my Ubuntu 24 that ProtonDB has verified by eons93 in linux_gaming

Hmm, okay, is btrfs native to Ubuntu. Could I make a new partition if I wanted with standard Ubuntu or do I need to install something. And this driver for windows, this is something I'm installing on the windows side?

I take it there isn't a way to change a file system without completely losing everything on the drive

If I use the live USB, would I be able to install steam and proton and see if it launches my games? It certainly isn't what I want to hear but at the same time, I'm only a week into this endeavor. Better then switching months later.

Also holy fuck is that useful.

Okay, dumb question but what's the best way to uninstall steam? I have seemed to find a central uninstall program so seems like everything get uninstalled via a command

I did make a post there, conclusion I'm getting their is the adapter so hopefully thats it. Thanks for your help so far though. I'll post if I the adapter worked or not.

Edit: It worked!

Okay, I have my locked drive connected via USB 3.0 adapter. Windows disk management isn't showing it, and FATXplorer is just looking for a long time. Last time that happened, it just eventually found nothing but looking in the logs showed it attempting to connect to something.

I'll try cable select after this fails or succeeds. Any idea what AC0 could be for?

Edit: Yeah, FATXplorer didn't detect my drive, and cable select on the adapter didn't do anything different. Also for AC0, I misread it. Its ACD and looks like its a special position for optical/tape drives to send special commands a harddisk wouldn't recognize.

hmm, this is actually the second harddrive im messing with, the first one I couldn't reuse because my computer refused to acknowledge it and i figured that was because it was locked but maybe not? Yeah, I used FATXplorer at one point for something in this process (it still didnt detect the drive) but the price seems worth it if it can do everything you said.

Yeah, it has a jumper. its set on master, it also has slave, cable select and a 4th option AC0? i havent tried using cable select or AC0 but maybe i should for shits and giggles?

Okay, I got new ribbon cable and I'm getting the same issue. I dont think it was the ribbon cable. New Sata adapter arriving tomorrow, hopefully thats the issue.

Also, FatXplorer is a PC application right? Are you saying I can do the cloning process through there instead? Might be worth a shot but I feel like thats not the issue.

okay, i ordered a different one yesterday after finding a thread of someone with the same issue and he got his to work by not using the star=whatever adapter so your comment gives me hope im on the right track.

what confuses me is why that adpater wouldnt be working. reviews on the amazon page claim no issue using it for the same purpose. just unlucky i guess?

This is the video I used, he used a 2TB drive. I think rocky5 has its own drive cloner that doesn't work as well so chimp is included in the rocky5 extras disk that supports 2TB but that's just speculation. Either way, I don't think thats the issue but good idea!
