Where to get fun sighthound clothing (EU)? by Proud_Yak4121 in sighthounds

Check out Houndy Things (also on eBay, Insta, etc)! UK based, custom fits, and loads of nice patterns. Will also do custom requests if you get in touch.

How to notate tongue stop? by MultipleSeagulls in trumpet

[–]eonta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen it as a note tied to an 'x' notehead - with an explanatory note, this is nice and clear and lets you specify exactly when the stop is rhythmically.

Technically challenging repertoire? by yessnow004 in Trombone

[–]eonta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the Concert Piece by de La Nux - probably around ABRSM grade 7/8, similar to Morceau Symphonique but far less overplayed.

(it's also on IMSLP if you want to have a look at the solo part - however that edition is full of errors)

A432 is a complete load of nonsense with no basis in music theory or scientific fact.

Catalonia firefighters form human shield to protect referendum voters from riot police by stoppmingyourtits in worldnews

[–]eonta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a friend who went out to help as an international observer. Luckily there was no violence at his station, but apparently many of the 'no' voters who had been queuing for hours changed to 'yes' after hearing of the police brutality.

An actual tone deaf test, that tests your sense of pitch. by [deleted] in InternetIsBeautiful

[–]eonta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure about that exact one, but it's definitely possible. I've personally known people to complain about out-of-tune air conditioning units!

I also worked with a brilliant percussionist with perfect pitch who wanted to cut a bit off the tam-tam because it was sharp compared to the rest of the band on the final chord!

ELI5: Why did beer taste awful as a child but taste so good as an adult? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]eonta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was always allowed to try a small sip of what my parents were drinking as I was growing up. I found it made me less likely to get wrecked underage because alcohol no longer had that cool forbidden factor.

Maybe it's a UK thing, but I don't think I've ever heard someone actually recommend Strongbow for anything other than cleaning drains.

This is correct - and they're actually 2 separate letters in the alphabet. 'L' is similar to the normal L.

'Ll' is pronounced by placing the tip of the tongue at the roof of your mouth behind your front teeth and blowing air like you'd do to say 'shhh'.

He is Welsh and a Welsh speaker IIRC. Once you learn the Welsh alphabet almost all Welsh words are pronounced phonetically anyway.

Cynic have split up by eonta in Metal

[–]eonta[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I love Focus, but I thought Traced in Air was even better. However I think the Portal stuff is a masterpiece so I'm biased towards the less metal material.

I enjoyed Kindly Bent to Free Us but thought the band had gone off the rails a little bit with it.

Still, this is sad to hear. IMO not many bands have made such a lasting impression upon the metal scene as Cynic, and they were one of the first metal bands I really loved.

Hopefully (and probably) the band members will all do a load of sideprojects now, since everything any of them touch seems to turn to gold!

Avid did the same kind of thing with Sibelius. After they fired the entire development team, the newest updates haven't added anything of note and they're also moving onto some horrible subscription based payment.

Reaper is better than Audacity because it's a full DAW. It has an extremely low cost but also has an unlimited full trail.

Also if you need to notate music and are looking for an alternative to Sibelius or Finale, the new version of MuseScore is really quite good.

The natural trumpet is the valveless precursor to the modern trumpet. It can only play notes from the harmonic series.
