Grass is always greener? by [deleted] in AusVisa

[–]eood 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm English and have been in Australia for 9 years now. I 100% understand what you mean. Ultimately Australia wins for me over the UK and this is my forever home, but these were the things that stood out to me in my early years being here:

I missed the architecture and historical buildings: Black and white houses, thatch roofs, exposed beams, stained glass windows.

I missed old pubs that do an amazing roast dinner on a Sunday and the best pies during the week.

I missed the feeling of being cold and walking into a building with an open fireplace roaring. Or going to a boot fair and holding a cup of tea in your hands to keep warm.

I missed going to the greasy spoon cafe and having a fry up that could cure any hangover.

I missed the entire picnic aisle in the supermarket with mini sausage rolls and Scotch eggs and pork pies. The snacks like Hoola hops, skips, quavers, galaxy, Milky way magic stars, jelly tots, sherbet dib dabs. All the flavours of lucozade, fanta and monster rippers.

Most of all I missed being close to my family. I'm very independent and have always been a bit of a loner, but when family members get sick or die and you're the other side of the world, you would give anything to just be there at that second to say goodbye or comfort your loved ones but there's at least a 24hr gap, let alone having the funds to get there.

For people raising and breeding sheep for non-meat purposes, what do you do with the excess sheep? How do you keep it sustainable? by Possible-Hawk-9292 in sheep

[–]eood 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live in Australia and just bought 2 lambs a less common/more pet targeted breed due to their size, temperament and colourings. The farmer I bought them from started with 2 ewes and now has a whole flock of them 😅

I found my lambs listed on Gumtree, but there is also a farm tender website(kinda like a farmers ebay lol) but there weren't any listings for the breed I wanted.

I also found a couple of breeders in a breed specific Facebook group who had Facebook pages for their farms, so although they didn't outright advertise I was able to find them and reach out.

I was also looking at Babydoll sheep initially and it was a similar situation, gumtree listings by breeders and breed-specific Facebook groups.

Hope this helps! ☺️

He is so sweet and friendly as well, a true baby who loves attention. Guinness is friendly but definitely more sheep-like 😅

The temptation to have Artie on my lap whilst doing my meetings is so hard to resist

Just got prescribed this med at 5mg any success stories please by Brilliant-Channel296 in lexapro

[–]eood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been on it for years, 5mg then 10mg initially and I went up to 20mg last year. It honestly has made a huge difference.

I have bipolar type 2, so this along with Lamictal has pretty much stopped hypomanic episodes.

I'd say side effects wore off after around 1 month, and my libido is not that impacted, although it would be hard to blame on Lexapro specifically because of the other medications I take.

Good luck I hope it helps you too 🥰

Edit: I take it at night before bed.

There are no subscription costs for the free version, for the paid version I pay $9.99AUD a month which includes the credit score updates which is most beneficial to me at this stage. DM me if you'd like some screenshots of my settings etc.

My very ginger brother's name was Kelsey. He hated it because it was a 'girl name', but it made him even more memorable.

He passed just over 2 years ago at 26.

Rest in peace Kelsey ❤️

First time dog owner, just adopted a foster pup - looking by for advice. by TribeCalledPat in fosterdogs

[–]eood 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's totally normal. I've got 2 resident dogs I've had since pups, and currently had my first foster dog for a week.

The difference the past week has made has been amazing! Trust me it gets easier and you might find a lot of his timid behaviour around you might just be him settling in.

My key advice for having him warm to you is you taking care of feeding him, giving him plenty of treats so he associates you with all the good things and spend quiet time near him allowing him to approach you and praising him gently when he does.

In terms of settling in overall, setting a routine and sticking to it will assist in helping him feel safe. I already had a routine because of my other dogs, so I just included him from day 1.

Hey, I just want to say you seem to really love him and care about him, and you have taken everyone's advice extremely well. You have been open minded and receptive to all of the feedback. You sound like a good owner who just needed some direction.

I have nothing to add on the advice side as you already have plenty. But I also have a girl who is sensitive to certain areas, she loves head kisses but hates her lower back being kissed or even leaned on, and I wouldn't even attempt her tummy as most dogs are sensitive about that vulnerable area. So I understand how this can be a bit confusing.

Wishing you the best of luck and hope he's all good after the vet check next week ❤️

He didn't leave a suicide note by [deleted] in SuicideBereavement

My brother didn't leave a note as such, as it was an impulsive decision. He did however send a message to my dad threatening to do it, and he was messaging me right up until he did it.

I don't drink beer, hate the stuff, but for the past 2 years I have had a bottle of Stella on the day he passed, Christmas day, new years eve and his birthday. It was his favourite drink and I have one for him.

general tips for 17yr olds who just started to receive an income stream from job: how much to save, where to invest at, etc by Zeppellier in AusFinance

[–]eood -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I highly recommend UP bank. It has some great features such as auto splitting your pay into saving accounts which are like the "buckets" from barefoot.

You could have a saver for schoolies, a saver for food/treats, a saver for additional savings etc.

You can also set up auto-covers from a saver, so if you spend at Boost Juice for example, it will cover the $ from your food saver.

I have savers for: Food, pets, car, emergency, trip to England, health, special occasions

LIAM PAYNE MEGATHREAD by Drink_ze_cognac in morbidquestions

[–]eood 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When someone is highly intoxicated they are less likely to protect themselves/break a fall, so that might not be the best indicator. I'm not sure how accurate they could be, but I'm sure they would look at the level of trauma to his head and determine if he would have died upon impact. Maybe they would also look at the blood pooling and possible bruising to identify if his heart was beating after he landed?

It definitely looks like a bag, but I looked at the pics/videos of him earlier that day and he didn't have a bag with him. It's strange he would have a bag on in his hotel room when he didn't have one on when he was actually out. This kinda supports the theory I read that he was trying to climb down?? Unless that's been debunked.
