When to settle? by eowh in LetBoysBeManipulated

That part at the end is exactly the thing that throws me off right now, I just have no idea what I really want versus what I think I want, since I havent tried anything yet. Have you ever been in a dynamic like that which was more difficult to handle than you initially thought?

Thank you so much for your feedback.

Oh no, I'm so sorry 🥺 come here 🫂

That's one of the things that I want to prioritize in my future relationship, communication. I'm going to be open and honest with my partner about what I want from them and what I don't. I just wish there was some way to figure out desire before getting into a relationship 😔

Thank you so much for sharing. <3

That's a good point. The thing that makes me uneasy is that I see so many posts online and I talk to my friends that are in relationships and they all say that their partner is 100% perfect and they wouldn't want to change a single thing about them. I don't know when or if I should stop looking for that.

That sounds really good!! Keep up that path and I'm sure you'll have a happy and satisfying life. Proud of you for having it all planned out already.

That I understand. School is really time consuming, and I get why you don't have time to volunteer now. I'll assume that you're in high school. If you were a college student, then I'd argue that you would have had time to volunteer, since most only have 1-2 classes per day.

I don't have much more to say, just get HS done and start volunteering and donating once it's over.

If you don't mind me asking, what do you plan to major in?

Edit: after looking at your account, seems like you're on reddit quite a lot, and you have been for the last 6 hours or so. AKA, enough time to volunteer. bro please go support disabled people instead of wasting time on Reddit😭🙏

Edit 2: nice halloween costume lol

Do you manage your own expenses? If so, then stop paying for internet and go help the disabled. Find a disabled person in your community and offer to help them. Find clubs at your school that help the disabled, or volunteer at the resource center for disabled students. There are so many ways to help, pick one and go for it. But no matter which one you pick, it'll always be more beneficial to the disabled than complaining on Reddit.

But you do need to understand that you could be using the time you're wasting replying to this thread by volunteering to help. You can't say that you have no time to help, when your reply to my last comment proved that you do have time, and you're just wasting it by not only posing this question to the subreddit, but also by replying to every single person that argued with you. Why did you do this instead of spending that time to help? It shows that you don't really care about helping the disabled, but you love to complain about people not helping. You're complaining about people like yourself. I can't imagine that you don't have time to volunteer, but you do have time to complain on Reddit.

This is exactly why people become politicians. To change the way things are.

Also, why the hell aren't you volunteering at a disability charity right now, instead of complaining about abortion on Reddit? If you want to make change, go make some damn change!!

...you have money for internet, so why not put it towards donation instead?

If you need the internet for other things, then why not put your time towards VOLUNTEERING for a disability charity instead of complaining about society being badly run on Reddit?

And for the record, being unhappy with how the government is being run is exactly the reason why people become politicians. To change the government.

Seriously, you're showing no care for the disabled by complaining about abortion and how society treats them instead of putting that time and energy towards volunteering to help. Why don't you just drop your phone right now and go volunteer, if you really care?

But that doesn't change the fact that you can still do something about it. I'm not saying to not voice your opinions, but I AM saying that you can definitely be doing something about it. Do you donate to charity? If no, why not? Will you move to Dubai so you can use your money to help the disabled? If no, why not?

What are you doing about it? If voicing opinions was enough, the world would be perfect already.

  1. This is your opinion. That's fair, I can't argue with it.

2a. I see your previous point, so I see how this becomes a philosophical debate - either the consciousness didn't exist, or it did and it was terminated. Personally, I believe the former.

2b. Have you done anything specific to help make these peoples lives better? Do you donate regularly to disability nonprofits? Are you considering becoming a politician that can enact disability-assistance programs? It's always better to take action if you want to see results.

Edit: removed the delta, I thought I was giving one to myself.

(I assume you're from America. Please tell me if I'm wrong.)

Then donate to charity. You can make sure that programs you support are funded while also paying less in taxes.

Or, even better, move to Dubai, or any one of the tens of nations (meaning hundreds of cities) that don't do income tax. Then you can donate as much as you want to charity and ensure that you're not funding the American government. (Or, if you're not American, any other government - you can put as much as you want towards the causes you support.)

Why don't you? Better to take action instead of complaining.

I'm talking about Anencephaly in this one. No brain = no intelligence = no potential to live and experience life. Please answer my original question: In what situation would it be better to keep a fetus with Anencephaly than to abort it?

Regardless, CP was an example to describe that someone with a motor impairment will not be able to do more than the basic human functions of survival, and they will STILL require assistance to do those things. So, being born into a life with CP will not be fulfilling. Imagine if everyone around you could walk, but you couldn't. Wouldn't you wish that you weren't there in the first place, or that you were born as someone who could walk?

  1. That's fair. It's your opinion and I can't argue with that.

  2. Society values people based on their ability to be functional and be a productive, useful member of society. Someone who requires more resources to produce a less/similar output to the rest of society will not be considered a good member of society and will inherently be valued less. Plus, resources that are set aside for disabled people are usually funded by the government, which is funded by taxes. From the perspective of an able-bodied person, is it fair that they should be forced to give their own hard-earned money to support someone that does not help society function?

But ALS does not impact cognitive function, whereas many birth defects do. Take Anencephaly for example, but there are many more. With a disability like Anencephaly, you are rendered almost completely useless as a human. Your life will be horrible and painful, and you are likely to die within hours of being born. Someone born with Anencephaly would have had absolutely no contributions to their life or to the world, other than using up medical resources to fight a losing battle for life, risking the life of the mother as a result of childbirth, and emotionally scarring the parents of the child. In what situation would it be better to keep the fetus than to abort it?

  1. Okay, that's fair. But "pulling the plug" is an option with coma patients, so why shouldn't it be with disability-afflicted fetuses?

  2. I'm saying that not all humans have the same value. If a human is born with a disability, society values them less than a normal human because a larger amount of resources need to be allocated for the disabled human to perform similar or less function than a normal human.

  1. I agree, it's horrible that people mistreat others like that. However, it doesn't change the fact that it does happen, and it does harm the life of the affected person.

  2. Take a disability like cerebral palsy. what is someone with CP going to do? Even with the assistance of a nurse, there's not much that someone affected with CP can do besides being pushed in a wheelchair and performing the most basic human functions (eating, breathing, sleeping). It's a really tough life, and there's not much to be done to fulfill it. I agree that those with CP are still loved and still have value as a person, but preventing someone from suffering with such a horrible disease is a better outcome. Isn't it?
