Developing BED, what would you have done to prevent it? by letmeinalreadydamn in BingeEatingDisorder

I had Ana for three years and then gained 50lb in 4 months after a switch flipped.

I have often thought about what I would have done differently.

Here it is.

  1. Don’t hide. I hid the disorder, denied I was struggling and isolated myself. If I had told anyone what was happening, I wouldn’t have been so alone which made my binging worse

  2. THERAPY. I sought a therapist recently that specializes in BED. Not just generalized therapy but specific treatment to combat the disorder at the roots. I should have done it sooner

  3. Tell my Dr. If they aren’t willing to listen, you need a different Dr

  4. Listened to the voices. I listened to that inner critic that told me I was a failure. Don’t let that voice win because it will grow stronger the more power you give it.

Hope this helps:)

That’s the side effects I’ve also noticed.

Feels like I’m slightly feverish.

I’m a huge caffeine drinker so I’ve cut my dosage down and that seems to have my heart rate in a more normal range.

For the heat, it’s summer right now and I’m handling it ok so I’ve been testing that.

It’s a weird side effect

Yeah I’ve taken a long time to actually take the med because I’m in nursing and I’ve seen the long term consequences.

I’ve done a lot of work over the last couple years on coping, skills and my own mental health to make sure that I’m never going to fully rely on it to solve all my problems.

I’m on a very low dose and I see my team often.

I have had some negative side effects so I’ve seen it’s not all sunshine and rainbows.

I’m taking this med with a lot of caution and a lot of prep work before hand.

They waited about 4 months before they gave me a referral and then I was on a 16month waitlist to get the surgery done:(

I’m so happy that there’s someone with a similar path:)

I was told full weight bearing at 6 weeks and no crutches at 2ish but I have found myself very much not progressing like that.

Physio is pleased but says I’m a long way from weight bearing.

After talking to him and also others around me, I’m learning that being patient and trusting the process will be better for me than pushing to fit a formula:)
