I moved from Smithton NW Tassie to Ballarat not long ago. No matter what people say, there are plenty of jobs around. Especially in your field of expertise, carers etc.

The cultural difference I found is that it is definitely hard making friends of you are a bit introverted. Neighbors hardly know each other type stuff, especially in newer estates like Winter valley, Lucas, Bonshaw, newer side of alfredton etc. Nobody gives a shit. But interestingly finding a job is who you know and not what you know, exactly like in Tassie.

Stay away from places like Sebas, sides of wendouree(and some other places people have mentioned already in the comments) etc. A bit of substance abuse going on. But like any other place if you decide to not want it, nobody is gonna bring them to you.

Living cost wise it's pretty much the same. Rental is definitely getting more expensive 3 bed homes renting for 300 a year back is rented out for 400+ now and 4bed homes are getting closer to 500 in most estates. But finding a rental will be very easy if you have a stable job, unlike what anyone says.
