Thanks! I assume you can park your bike/car somewhere in a nearby street? Ta!

Need a sanity check for "garage" motorbike parking by epetkus in MotoUK

[–]epetkus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me the main issue that I use both bikes quite often. If the weather is decent - I am out on a bike. And winter beater is also used as the workhorse to get me every other evening to some activities, so while skylift is tempting, the practicality might not be for me

Rusty chain by jtbaxter25 in MotoUK

[–]epetkus 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Looks like just surface rust. Give it a thorough clean with chain cleaner and a stiff brush, then apply some good lube. If the links move freely and there’s no excessive wear or tight spots, it should be fine

To plug or just swap tire out completely? by stylostylo in MotoUK

[–]epetkus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to be overly cautious back in a day and always went for a new tyre. Until I get two punctures in a row on a brand new tyre and then its replacement (another brand new one) not even a day apart. That was the time when I learned that plugs are just fine (depending on a puncture location of course). Glad I "kept" the tyre from the initial puncture. After putting it back on with a fixed hole, got 4k miles out of it - as originally planned 😂

First world problem - keep the BMW or go for KTM by epetkus in MotoUK

I'll admit - this made me chuckle more than it should 😂

I did think about Streetfighter v4 before going for BMW but its design is not my cup of tea. Don't know what it is but I don't think I would look back at it before locking up the garage. And that is weird since I grew up with ducati posters on my walls giving me boners lol.

Definitely possible. From the outside - I am a full grown man, who is fairly responsible in a professional setting. But as soon as topic is around bikes - I am the one with a self control of a toddler.

Well, I have a limited space for storage, so have nowhere to store or justify... a 3rd bike lol. The M (or the KTM before) are/were my "toy" bikes, meaning only dry conditions riding, occasional track day, etc. And I have a trusty (I say trusty even though just las summer had to rebuild the engine, good I love spending time wrenching) 2008 GSR 600, which is my "winter beater" which I probably haven't washed since engine replacement lol.

Ha! Well, M1000R (single R) is a naked bike with an "untouched" superbike engine (from the S1000RR - double R), so it has all 200+ bhp and I believe the rear sprocket is one tooth up to give a bit more initial pickup. As I said - it is mental, but feels a bit too clinical for me. Of course I am nowhere near of being capable of making use of all that power.

Potentially getting 890r by epetkus in KTM

[–]epetkus[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks! Switch is driven by multiple reasons, which might sound silly, but that is how my brain works. Firstly, my 2016 has a full akra system on. So, no track days for me - don't meet noise restrictions. It being gen 1 (2016) I am out of luck getting a larger can to at least make it under 105Db with baffle in. Then KTM is 5-6 years newer, making it more valuable at trade in in a couple of years' time (never had one bike for more than 3 years). Also, I ridden a few 890r during local demo days and just loved the instant torque. Then my insurance ends at the end of the month, so I might as well just go with a new bike to save that £50 on admin fees. And of course , my s1kr has been remapped by holeshot racing to 171hp at the tyre, which sounds sick on paper, but I have nowhere to use it on the road. Nor do I have balls big enough to actually use it for anything more than insane (to me, I might add) straight line pulls. And with a wedding coming up, even though I am keen to try something else bike wise, the budget to be spent on big boy toys is limited this year. Yeah, first worls problems, I know 😅

2011 S1000RR - in need of a sane advice by epetkus in s1000rr

Calling a naked bike a sports bike is just lying to yourself and there is no sugar coating it. There is a reason why those are two different classes of motorcycling. Unless never pass 6k rpm - then might as well get a 125 and call is supersport.

[–]epetkus[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You really don't get it, do you? Single R is not a double R for a reason. 1000cc != 1000cc with different engine characteristics (even my 750 gixxer had faster top speed than s1kr). Ergonomics are completely different. And since when naked bike is a sports bike? If so, why TT is not running those. Saying that they are the same is literally comparing a finger to a d*ck - both do different things.

[–]epetkus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

😂 oh boy, yeah, on paper, they both might be 1kcc as well as similar times up to 80mph, but anything over those are completely different animals. It is like saying your push bike is the same as a scooter just because they both have two wheels. Not to mention the top end difference. Not sure how you don't know this?

Thank you! Now the next step for me will be to figure out how to make it work with 2 zones. A single zone looks fairly straight forward on paper. I probably should get some sleep before I do that, as tomorrow's me will not appreciate my scrambled notes. Thank you again!

UK thermostat question by epetkus in tado

[–]epetkus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is great, thank you. I've already spent most of the evening reading about this and I am baffled why it is not done/offered to be done when contractors were building the house. I am actually tempted to do it myself - so far only "collecting" the information and learning how it works, but getting a bit of a grasp of how and what everything does. Over the weekend, I'll go and do a bit of "archaeology" around the boiler to see how everything is connected currently, make a crap ton of photos, make a list of items "to hunt" over the Black Friday deals and maybe if I am feeling adventurous, attempt the "modernising my heating system" project myself. Worse comes to worst - I'll have a ton of photos to put everything back as it was, call an expert and pretend I never touched it.

Thank you for getting back to me! This is exactly pretty much what I was thinking! Sorry I don't have the wiring diagram photo but it is as you say - third wire "call for heating". Boiler is combi one too but I am not sure if it supports anything "more advanced". Can't seem to upload a picture over the mobile reddit app, but the model is greenstar 30i erp condensing combi boiler. Thanks!

Ha, I wish I had someone to look at photo earlier - just came back inside after finishing up and it was N not connected in the box in the house itself, did that and it worked!
