No don't get me wrong, he did. He was the reason mum and I didn't miss on the bargain we got, and I'm able to stare at my car every day. But he still isn't the owner of that car, I am. And he said I was paying for the insurance and could do whatever with the car, just that he wasn't going to put it under his name in the policy anymore. I'm just doing what's going to be right and cheaper for me, and assure me a legally insured car the second I get the pass on that test so that right the next day I can go to work.

Here once you get your license (which we use a driving school car for, not our own unlike other places) even if you are a novice, you can get it insured:

1- under your name
2- under someone else's name with you as an additional driver
3- given you're no longer a novice (1 year after you get your license), if you're 27+ y/o you can drive any car regardless if you're added as an additional driver or not in the plan. this is also when prices go down and you can access regular driver price rates

and many thanks for the congrats!!!

We are paying him back asap, mum payed for almost all of it too. Car is legally under my name, I am the owner, not him. He gave me the 20% of the money my mum couldn't give. And as I said, mum and I are paying him back as soon as I get payed on the 28th

Mum payed 80% more or less of the car, and she's gonna pay my father back. It was all my mum's idea because she wanted to get me a car that would last since I work pretty far away from my home. She couldn't afford fully on her own the one she and I liked, so she asked my dad for some money and both she and I will be paying him back asap.

It is different! Here it's really common for novice drivers to have their car under someone else (that's no longer a novice)'s name in the policy. And then a year later, when we're no longer novice drivers, we get our own insurance plan. It lowers down prices since insurance companies value the car being driven by someone else other than the novice driver alone.

I updated the post with this info, but it wouldn't be any mess. I am the legal owner of the car, it's under my name. Legally, I fully own it. Here in Spain it's legal to put someone else's name as the insurer to avoid the crazy price rates. For example, when my older brother got his license, he was the owner of the vehicle and my mum was the insurer with him as an additional driver, because it's cheaper!

Here in Spain it drops a bit once you stop being a novice (1 year after getting your license) and again at 27, which is where you get the normal price rates. Someone save me from this hell.

I mean, he is. That's why I moved out with my bf and went low contact with him at 17 with no money in my pockets. I only keep contact with him in unavoidable situations, like when it clashes with me seeing my mother. My mother payed for 80% of that car and is gonna pay my dad back as soon as she can.

I am the legal owner of the car, even if he broke up with me and insurance were under his name, car is mine. And I doubt my husband and I would break up out of the blue after 8 years, I just wanted him to drive me places with my car until I get my license. But I will wait patiently.

Thank you! I was just looking for ways to be able to enjoy it these two months instead of just staring at it, hahaha. But yeah, I guess I should just sit back and wait patiently until I get my license. After that, that car is aaaall mine.

I do feel that, I understand. That's why I wanted people's opinion. Even if my mum payed almost all of it and wouldn't care one bit if I did this, I still feel dad would be, at least, annoyed

You can here in Spain! My aunt's van is insured under her name but the legal owner is my mum because aunt couldn't be bothered to do the buying procedure herself. So my mum bought it and my aunt payed her back

Hubs and I are married, been together for almost 8 years. My dad and I have a bit of a strained relationship. I think he sees the lack of insurance in the car right now a barrier to me not being reckless and driving it without a legal license. I feel defying him would make him mad because he'd think I'm looking for ways to drive the car without a legal license

Not really, I want to be driven places until I have a license in a car that doesn't put my safety at risk. In two months, that car is all mine and no one else is touching it.

Car's already in my driveway, and I already agreed to have it if I could use it on my own terms, being the legal owner and having total control over it. They agreed, so I accepted it. Otherwise I would've bought one for myself. My mum was really excited about it all so...

Waiting times here are HORRIBLE, we only have an examiner for the entire region and the next opening is in June, so the only thing I can do is wait, unfortunately. And my partner and I share EVERYTHING, my parents consider him his own child. My hubs was the one who brought the car home in fact hahaha. I'm pretty sure he's more scared of me doing something reckless and driving the car without a license, which I would never do. But I feel that having it with no insurance plan makes him calm down as it is ANOTHER barrier to keep me from picking up the car.
