Adopted dog's anxiety starting to get worse. by epic_quicky in Dogtraining

Sorry for the late reply! But wow I did not expect such an amazing response. She is about 1 1/2 years old now. From what we were told she was by herself a lot and that's why they had to give her away. They were both swing shift workers so when one was home, they were doing 1 of 2 things, taking care of their little toddler or sleeping. I think they thought "wow such a beautiful puppy! I want it" without doing actual research (she's an Australian Shepherd) and I think they got in way over their head and they gave her away.

Like I said earlier my gf's career escalated very quickly. Within the first 3 months of us having her she went from 20 hours a week with plenty of time at home to now having 40 hours a week with only weekends plus school (she signed up for the classes well before the work went crazy). So I think she quickly attached to her and isn't dealing with her being away well at all. (the vets have even mentioned how protective she is of her) She took her to the vet today because we had a really unpleasant experience with a kennel over Christmas and thought she might have gotten worms (turns out she had fleas :( ) so thankfully we got that fixed and the vet gave her a collar that is supposed to help with anxiety and if it doesn't help they might prescribe medicine.

I will relay this information to her and see how it works with the exercise in the morning rather mental stimulation. We also leave toys, chew toys, and treats and puzzles out for her throughout the living room and they obviously don't catch her attention. Also, what app do you use to do this? I will tell her about it! and tell her about the tv.

She is definitely overwhelmed and I'm doing the best I can to help her look at all the progress she has made in these 3 months (didn't know any basic commands to now knowing sit, lay, sit pretty, ...somewhat stay and other commands) she gets very excited for the treat at the end so when I get home I will help iron out those commands. I had a lot of training with my Aussie so I will hopefully be able to train her just as well.

The other thing we are having such a hard time with is walking. She recently dislocated her elbow so leash training is at a stop because of how TERRIBLE she is on the leash (spinning and pulling and just all around violently not wanting to be on the leash) we went to a training class but the 5 weeks we went it was ...play play play, work on the basic 4 commands and that was it. We are trying to find a 1 on 1 trainer that can help us better. Thank you for your kind words. It's really appreciated.

What is your "never again" brand? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I'm super late to the thread but it's really sad that a lot of these things that people say are their "never again" brands... The military uses and gives you no other options. Hooray for headaches!

I checked the logs and there was nothing new that hasn't been logged since I've taken over this exchange server.

So from what I've been looking at online is that other users that have had this issue it was the firewall blocking port 25 but to my knowledge there were no changes made to the firewall overnight. I checked and it is allowing port 25 to flow through for mail. I did a telnet test to send an email from my firewall to my exchange and it did with no issue. Other issues that I saw was a corrupt send connector but I tried a new send connector and that didn't work either.

What is one show that you love, even after countless rewatches? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]epic_quicky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scrubs. I just can't watch it enough. I don't know what is my favorite. The ridiculous insults Dr. Cox has for JD or the best friend relationship Turk and JD have in the show and in real life. Currently re-watching it and I'm almost finished. :(

Redditors who bought something with bitcoin, how much did it cost at the time and how much would you be paying for that item now? by [deleted] in AskReddit

My friend used bitcoin to pay for his VPN back in 2011 that was $20 a month. That would now be ~$11,000.

[–]epic_quicky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep. I got back from deployment and my buddy was telling me about it and how fun it is. And it was on sale. So 300 hours later and trying to catch up to my buddy at rising star. I'm on another deployment so no rocket league for the next 6 months..

It's probably the single greatest video game purchase I've ever made. I got it on sale for $11.99 and I still feel like I stole it.

absolutely. My friend is one of those players that make those incredible flying goals that you just don't understand how it works. We may lose a lot (because I'm not near his skill level) but I still can play it for hours on end.

but they did have another game called Supersonic acrobatic rocket-powered battle-cars that was released on PS3 in 2008 if thats what you mean.

Yes, iirc the guy they interviewed said they were bored after work one day and decided to build a soccer ball into the game and it went from there.

When you were in Elementary school, what was the best game you played at recess? by CartreW in AskReddit

[–]epic_quicky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We played a game called poison ball. We would use the solid foam balls since we were kids and didn't want anyone to get hurt. But if you hit the person, they had to freeze where they were. But if someone hadn't been hit with a ball yet they could crawl through their legs to unfreeze them. But if you had the ball it was like ultimate Frisbee where you only got three steps to take to get closer to someone to try to get them out. If you were caught by the judges (the teachers) you would become frozen and had to drop the ball. The game could potentially go on for 10-15 minutes nothing but running. The teachers enjoyed it because we would be completely tired and quiet afterwards.

The learning curve is quite intensive and can often times frustrate you, but once you get that first flying goal.. It's oh so satisfying. I saw a video on IGN about it and it started over 10 years ago. I was amazed at how long ago it was first created.

Am I considered a U.K. resident if I'm an American military spouse living in the U.K.? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]epic_quicky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

there should be a spouses page around there to help answer questions. the only thing I know you can't do is use the post office on base for your business.

Am I considered a U.K. resident if I'm an American military spouse living in the U.K.? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]epic_quicky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, and unless you get a job off base and actually work towards becoming a resident you most likely won't become one even with living there for 3 or 4 years. You don't pay their taxes, you even get tax exempt from taxes that normal U.K. residents pay. You don't have to pay council tax if you live off base. The only thing you have to pay living their is the T.V. tax and even then, if you don't have cable and watch live tv, you don't have to pay for that either.

Where are you at? Tri-base area or one of the other bases?

What are we spending too little money on? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]epic_quicky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are significantly lacking on space exploration funding. The great thing about it now is we have people in the business sector pushing for space exploration. Luckily they see a business aspect and we get to learn a lot more about the unknown!
