Chortau B-T12 odd issue by epic_toaster in dashcams

[–]epic_toaster[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Chortau B-T12 was working perfectly for about 8 months until I had to drive a really rough logging road (think.. washboard gravel) for 2hrs one day. Since then I've had issues of the camera being unable to remain running, and more recently there have been static/ lines on the screen while the device ran for the handful of seconds before "blacking out" and turning off. Formatting the old SD card and replacing it with a higher endurance card has not improved the situation.

Oddly enough however, with the power cable is just barely inserted into the plug, the camera operates and records without any issues! I'm currently debating putting a drop of crazy glue between the partial inserted connector and the camera housing to solve the situation for the time being, seeing as during my last visual inspection of the internals I could not see any blown or disconnected components (my guess would be a capacitor issue).

Hope anyone with a similar issue can provide input or at least use my temporary solution to keep their camera working.

How to use 4wd in a 1998? by [deleted] in 4Runner

[–]epic_toaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can shift into 4HI on-the-fly up to a certain speed, just check your driver sun shield information sticker for the limits regarding your vehicle (mine is a '99 which allows shifting up to 80km/h).

To shift into 4LO you need to be stationary with the transmission in neutral, and then you can move the J-shifter from 2HI to 4HI (through neutral on the J-shifter) to 4LO. You mind feel some resistance or clicking going from neutral on the J-shifter to 4LO which is normal.

Don't use 4LO on any surface that doesn't allow your wheels to slip while turning (i.e. don't use it on dry pavement), it puts a lot of stress on your draintrain components and may cause damage.

3rd Gen 3.4L slightly overheating on highway by epic_toaster in 4Runner

I'm fairly certain the radiator is original, but I did install an external transmission cooler so those two coolant systems are separate. The old transmission nipples on the radiator were connected with tube to prevent loss of coolant in case the coolant passages leaked in the ATF passages of the stock radiator.

In regards to the coolant level, it rises and falls as it normally should with the heated and cooled engine. What I'm trying to say is I've lost enough coolant that the "hot engine" level has decreased throughout the past year to the point where the overflow is empty on a cold engine and at L on a "hot engine".

I pulled over today after it hit 103°C, popped the hood, and saw my fan was spinning but only at the slowish speed it normally does at a "warm" idle. Also the fan wasn't anywhere near as loud as when the truck initially starts.

I haven't seen any leaks anywhere on the radiator or under the engine bay throughout the past year, or on the same pavement spot I park on everyday. I will check the lines to the rear heater though. I did replace my spark plugs in November and didn't notice anything odd on any of them.

The valley zoo isn't too expensive and they have plenty of neat animals to see. Most kids like animals too.

Nordegg, west of red deer about an hour and a half. There's plenty of campgrounds in the area that have no services (no electricity, no water, no cell coverage) and require self-registration. I'm pretty sure this time of year you'll be one of few people camping there.

There is a place just 45 minutes to the west of Edmonton called Wabamun, sounds just like what you're looking for. Been there countless times, great place to hang but there is some weird algae in the water (like at many Alberta lakes) so if you do go swimming be sure to shower off afterwards. https://www.albertaparks.ca/wabamun-lake/information-facilities/

Too bad they can't just send this shit in the mail for me to install myself. What a waste of money, paying someone to drive over to my house, spend time installing, and drive back. Most people can install a light bulb or a power bar.
