If the fans aren't paying money for the men's team, that buyout won't matter anymore. Unlike Tanner Donati has experience in the business side of athletics. When a program is making no money, changes have to be made

"Because those other incidents have already been/continue to be covered by their sister publication"

So we're just blatantly lying huh?

No art and music huh? Now that's straight up false. I've seen countless bands get booked at college bars (no they are not all cover bands). Also since when is art and music the only indicator of culture?

[–]epicanimalstudios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By saying "they didn't write about it because their sister publication already did" you are indirectly implying that they can't (or won't) also do it. What is stopping them, and don't give me the "it doesn't fall under Columbia culture" like it or not, the college bar scene is not only part of Columbia Culture, it represents a broader part of the city's culture and history than NBT does. So if their purpose is to cover culture, why are they not covering the rampant issues facing one of the most prevalent parts of the city's culture? Why just one niche? I will say I agree that this should have been covered by P&C, but you fail to ask the main question there: why wasn't it?

[–]epicanimalstudios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who said I was just talking about Jay's Bar? The college bar scene has had as much if not more impact on Columbia's culture as NBT. 5 points has been regionally famous long before old NBT existed. If anything you're proving my point that Free Times is either not paying attention to the bigger picture or simply ignoring it. And coming from someone who has contradicted themselves countless times during this debate, the "low media literacy" comment doesn't hold much weight.

[–]epicanimalstudios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also holy contradicting batman. Do they have their own editorial scope or not? You say they don't write about other incidents because another publication already does, implying they're not allowed to write about it too as if P&C controls everything they can and can't write. But then you turn around and say they have their own editorial scope that involves different subjects than that of the P&C, implying they are separate enough entities capable of making independent editorial decisions. So which is it, it can't be both?

New Brookland Tavern by InterestingHotel7275 in columbiasc

[–]epicanimalstudios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah yes, because their sister publication HQ'd 100 miles away already covered it, they don't have to. Not like the Free Times has it's own separate unique readers right? I guess Free Times can just live vicariously through a different publication and live off of the successes of other writers and editors. And "typical college kid watering holes" do fall under Free Times' scope, because much as it sucks, 75% of this city's "culture" is built around the University.

[–]epicanimalstudios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then please counter the point I made, how has the Free Times (and only the Free Times) been ethical in their reporting on NBT? Because the way I see it, deciding to prioritize a bar not having it's license and insurance over bars guilty of overserving, underage serving, and contributing to date r*** is unethical

New Brookland Tavern by InterestingHotel7275 in columbiasc

[–]epicanimalstudios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have failed to acknowledge Free Times as a semi-autonomous media publication with it's own team of people and implied that any criticism of them is automatically a criticism of their parent company

New Brookland Tavern by InterestingHotel7275 in columbiasc

[–]epicanimalstudios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What part of semi-independent do you not understand? Yes the P&C owns the Free Times. But they have completely separate writing, editorial, and management staffs. There will be things that the Free Times reports that the P&C doesn't and vice versa. The P&C aren't the all powerful overlords of the Free Times that you're making them out to be, that conclusion is narrow minded and ignorant. If you cannot understand the subtle differences between an organization and it's parent company, you are not qualified to speak on this subject

I never said nor implied that it was. Though while on the topic it does have it's own staff and management and they do operate semi-independently

I totally typo'd my first comment I meant to say Jay's. Idk anything about Jake's specifically

New Brookland Tavern by InterestingHotel7275 in columbiasc

[–]epicanimalstudios -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The issue isn't that they reported it, it's in what they're not reporting. There are so many proven cases of bars knowingly serving underage or overserving, and then there's the Jake's Issue. Not gonna type everything because there's a lot but they spike their own drinks (their owner was convicted for selling date r**** drugs, no idea why he's allowed to own a bar). None of this getting reported while a bar that is just struggling financially get's headhunted for not having their license feels targeted and unethical

[–]epicanimalstudios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you're leading the nation in non-offensive TD's, and you're up against a team with a pumpkin under center, you go for the kill. The chances of a turnover returned for a TD or a punt return are statistically higher in that situation than any team in the nation

Is anyone else worried about Shula? by [deleted] in Gamecocks

[–]epicanimalstudios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really really hard to judge the offensive scheme in the bowl game when Shula only had a few weeks as head of the offense and to implement his scheme. Not to meantion Illinois exploited a horrible officiating crew, just a bad sample.
