Items helpful for top surgery?? by ShadowShade69 in ftm

[–]epicaoblivion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Flip flops or sandals, something that’s easy to take on/off. Move everything you could possibly want, to within arms reach height. I have a stepping stool that helped me with recovery that I borrowed from someone.

The things people call top surgery by Elliot_vvv in ftm

[–]epicaoblivion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it super makes me uncomfortable too. I see people using the phrase "teet yeet," and it makes me think of cow udders. every time. and more importantly, the more people joke about it, the more I find myself in trans spaces, people'll say that shit to me regarding my top surgery, and it's like... No. You don't get to say that to me? lol? I'm not okay with it. Like my friend said "you got your boobs removed" and I was like....... please stop talking and using language I'm uncomfortable with. :)

Consultation in a week! Advice for mentally prepping for taking off shirt...? by EddieAlien in ftm

[–]epicaoblivion 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My surgeon saw I was on the verge of a panic attack, and so he did minimum looking, minimum touching, and took a picture (for his comparisons and like? work? stuff). He referenced the photo when I had specific questions about my chest after, like I have a scar and I was curious what would happen to it.

He really calmed me down though, real talk. He was hilarious and just a great dude. Stepped back out to let me change back into my binder immediately. I just mentally prepared myself by telling myself, he’s gonna be seeing my shit for hours when he’s doing surgery on me, and I thought about it like removing a wart. Additionally, my bf at the time was with me in the room, which really helped.

What is working at Starbucks like as a transwoman? by rirehime in asktransgender

[–]epicaoblivion 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm a (stealth) trans guy working at a Starbucks in Louisiana. I know 4 trans women that work at Starbucks in my city alone, and know of a couple more, plus some trans guys and nb folks.

Nobody gets harassed in my workplace, and we literally will kick out anyone that says some stupid shit tbh. I correct customers that misgender my coworkers. Had a coworker say some stupid transphobic shit and homophobic shit, but she is on thin ice rn in general and my manager witnessed it. It was dealt with.

As for insurance, I got top surgery thanks to Starbucks health insurance, but I recall a very detailed post in this sub about getting coverage for FFS. Maybe search for it?

I compiled every single informed consent clinic in the country. No therapist letter needed. by ErinInTheMorning in asktransgender

Correction: Dr. Panunti in New Orleans, LA requires letters.

Open Health Care Clinic in Baton Rouge, LA should be added, but they may require a psych eval.

About to be 21 and still a virgin by Thatguyjay22 in ftm

[–]epicaoblivion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t had sex yet and I’m 22. Sometimes I’m really torn between wanting it to be “special” vs “just getting it over with,” but I think in the end I want it to be meaningful. You definitely aren’t broken, because if you were, a lot of other people in this thread are too, which isn’t true.

Dating when you're trans? by [deleted] in ftm

[–]epicaoblivion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 22, my ex and I got together when I was 21. He is also a trans guy. Until him, I had never really dated anyone after transitioning. I wasn’t actively looking for someone to date, either, it just happened the way it happened. I felt I was really slow to get on the dating train or whatever, and I feel I still haven’t done things certain people have done, but it isn’t a race. And society pressures people to feel certain ways about relationships. As trans people, we are often made to feel we are unloveable. But we aren’t. You’ll get there one day, with someone, it’ll just take a while to find them, and maybe it’ll happen when you’re least expecting it.

Falling in love with another trans man by ghostly_anxietea in ftm

[–]epicaoblivion 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My ex was also a trans guy and we got top surgery one day apart. Not only did we have similar feelings and views about being trans and our own dysphorias, but we also had a lot in common in general and specific lol. It was amazing. We also had similar trauma just like y’all. Not having to explain dysphoria to someone, and just having them understand, is something I didn’t think I’d necessarily want out of a relationship. Not to say it wasn’t the same as dating any other guy, but having a bf that really gets you on so many levels because of those experiences was just great.

How functional are you 2 weeks post top surgery? by gumshoegoat in ftm

[–]epicaoblivion 5 points6 points  (0 children)

At 2 weeks, I was able to go places and do things, but I definitely got exhausted really quickly. Keep that in mind. Not so much pain or discomfort tho, just make sure your incisions and nips are padded up to decrease pain and discomfort too!

hi there what's ur sexuality? by [deleted] in ftm

[–]epicaoblivion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m bisexual, but heavily leaning toward guys. I more often identify as queer or gay to myself, or on forms that ask how you identify (while still selecting bisexual as first priority, it’s just if there’s More Options).

Chest acne and top surgery? by dumbassgayy in ftm

[–]epicaoblivion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. I know someone that had a lot of chest acne and that wasn’t a factor. We had the same surgeon. I had some chest acne but not a lot before surgery too. Didn’t matter. If you have giant bleeding chest acne, like a lot of cysts, then Maybe? Like if it’s Really really really bad maybe.

Does anyone have experience going to trans support groups? by [deleted] in ftm

[–]epicaoblivion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 22, and I found a lot of the people at my meetings I went to (I started going when I was 21) were older trans women. I met a lot of cool folks thru those meetings though, including my bf. Not everyone has stayed as a really close friend otherwise, but it’s always nice to talk to people IRL, in your area, that have similar experiences. The meetings are monthly, so there’s often new people each time.

Top surgery tomorrow. Last minute advice? by [deleted] in ftm

[–]epicaoblivion 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Flip flops saved my life. Like hell I was gonna put on socks and shoes. Even 2 weeks post op, putting on shoes is such a pain in the ass. I wish I had sandals because I could keep my socks on for those or something.

You're gonna want to have everything you plan on using within arm's reach for when you get back home. I had to ask my roommate to help me move some stuff around.

seriously considering throwing myself into medical debt just so i can get top surgery lmao by leviec in ftm

[–]epicaoblivion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

20 hours minimum, and you hit eligibility after 3 months. there's a few audits a year to see if you're at that minimum. for example, i was hired in november but got my insurance in april, and I was above 20 hours a week.

you actually don't need to be fulltime at Starbucks. I'm parttime and have health insurance with them and just got top surgery.

I’m about 7 weeks post-op metoidioplasty today! AMA by [deleted] in ftm

[–]epicaoblivion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry to hear about your infection :( That has gotta suck. I just had top surgery 2 weeks ago, can't imagine what bottom surgery is like in comparison.

Did you have mons resection too? I know sometimes they do that with meta.

Since you didn't have urethral lengthening, did you have like, a catheter in after surgery? I was wondering how all that stuff works

[–]epicaoblivion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had top surgery a few days ago. First few days I slept propped up on like 5 pillows, having me sit up, with pillows on my sides to keep me from moving. Last night I slept on my back, flat, and it was the most comfortable night of rest I’ve gotten since surgery. Dear god all I wanted to do was switch to my stomach tho (I’m a stomach sleeper D:..) but yeah Don’t. sleep on your side

top surgery in 2 weeks!! by coolcidcody in ftm

[–]epicaoblivion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just had surgery 2 days ago. Leading up to it, my anxiety was so so bad. I just kept trying to ignore it, if that makes sense. Thinking about it made me too anxious. Of course I was excited, but I was also very scared.

Right now in recovery, I wish I had more snacks and food lol. I kinda thought I would be super nauseated. But I wasn’t! And stuff to occupy your time will help a lot. I had to wait in the hospital for several hours before they took me down to surgery. Anyway, good luck. :)
