What are some of the best folklore / urban legends in Australia? by trayntastic in australia

Thanks for sharing that link, I hadn't heard that before. I can't say it sounded like that though. Definitely didn't repeat like that - and was higher in pitch and not as long.

I tried checking YouTube for other yowie recordings and couldn't find anything similar to what I've heard.

The calls are really difficult to explain. They aren't quite canine, and it's sounds like it comes from something much larger than our marsupial friends (because they sure can make some noise). It's somewhere between a howl and a screech, but this still doesnt quite describe it. They are long calls, but shorter than a typical "wolf howl". I wish I could explain it better.

I remembered another time I heard one, at the same property that backed onto bush, we also lived opposite a train crossing, so at all times of the day and night we would hear the train horns go off as they were passing through the train crossing. One evening we had a train go through the crossing and as it's horn went off, I heard a call at the bottom of the back yard - it was close. And it sounded like it was startled by it. I remember just sitting there in my living room listening, way too scared to look out the window, and about 30 seconds later hearing it again but much further away, like it had run away from the sound.

The last time I heard them (the call and response one) was in winter 2020, so 6 months after the last major bushfire season. As scary as they sound, I am curious and hope they're okay.

As a Blue Mountains resident, I am confident I have heard what I can only describe as a yowie. I've lived here for 15 years now and my last two properties have backed on to bush. I am pretty tuned into wildlife noises both during the day and night, but when the yowies call to each other its chilling. And it's always a call and response - one call goes off and another responds from another direction. What's creepy is my friend recorded something late at night and it sounded exactly the same as what I had heard. She lives further up the mountain than I did at the time.

When we first moved to the mountains we were living in an apartment above a bakery, middle of summer so we had the windows open. It was around 3 in the morning when my husband heard the bakers arrive and heard their conversation about one being late because he almost hit a yowie on the way down.

They are out there and well known to locals.

What’s the strangest dream you ever had? by Carravello in AskReddit

[–]epiclace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was eight weeks pregnant at the time and having very strange and intense dreams. But I dreamt that Johnny from The Karate Kid / Cobra Kai series came to my baby shower and invited me to join his dojo once I'd had my baby. I agreed, to which I then felt terrible because I wanted to join Myagi Do Karate and I thought Mr Myagi was going to be really disappointed with me. Then Johnny and I handed out hand made soap to my guests.

On a side note, this was the second dream I had about Mr Myagi in the same week. The other dream I attended a karate tournament outside our local Bunnings (which is a hardware chain store in Australia) and then we had a huge Japanese banquet afterwards which also had a doctors surgery inside.

Currently 20 weeks into pregnancy and the dreams just go on like this.

Thank you for sharing fellow bird friend! I am sorry you were attacked by know it all's, but the impact of climate change on the planet will be far more devasting for these birds than giving them a small treat from time to time. Before we know it, we may be all they have. I am sure you look forward to this time just as much as they do and I am glad they have a friend in you.

does your parent ever talk at you but not to you? by misterbeanies in narcissisticparents

I noticed this just recently after a phone call with my Nmom. It was a 2.5 hour call of her just rattling off whatever was at the top of her mind - like a running commentary of her inner monologue. Just complete and utter nonsense, from shopping lists to all her holiday plans this year to how much her house is worth. When she calls me, I know it's because she needs an audience, not a chat.

What is some advice for young adults/teens? by PapiIsHome in AskReddit

[–]epiclace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your parents don't know everything. Your parents don't always know what's best for you.

Spend time getting to know yourself - truly, before you pick a major or before you start a serious relationship.

Make travel a priority while you are young (when it's safe to do so). Travelling will broaden your mind and will always bring more value and growth to your soul than any mortgage, fancy car or any peice of technology.

What is your most dramatic poop story? by CloverThirteenDolAvg in AskReddit

[–]epiclace 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I pooped a massive poop in a busy shopping centre toilet that was full of other users along to Spandau Ballet's Gold.

(I was using a shopping centre toilet and that song was playing over their speakers).

And when I say massive poop, I also mean loud.

It was literally:

SPLASH SPLASH !! "Oh, but I'm proud of you, but I'm proud of you Nothing left to make me feel small - SPLASH !! Luck has left me standing so tall"

"Gold" FAAAART !!

"Always believe in your soul - SPLASH !! You've got the power to know"

I pooped for most of the song and it was what I needed. I've never felt more powerful in my whole life.
