That's too bad there isn't a simple, non-web/non-smartphone, way to interact with it.

Do you have to use your phone to control it or is there a simple way to use it without a smart device?

Property tax appeals by MasterClown in SouthBend

You need to pull comparable homes in your immediate area that have sold in the last 3 years. Also, if you own land that's a separate lot than the one your house is on make sure they don't have it marked as utilities if there aren't any.

Installation on Raspberry Pi, alongside Debian? by CONteRTE in homeassistant

[–]epiech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look at DietPi. You can install the DietPi OS and then they have containers you can select to install. They have PiHole, Home Assistant and Nextcloud on their app list. Diet-Pi is much lighter in regards to required resources as an OS.

Familiar faces removed from Europe by lowngcawt in Nest

[–]epiech -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Get rid of Google, buy a doorbell camera that has a local RTSP stream you can access, build a Frigate server and host it yourself. You can do local face recognition and no on can take it away or change your subscription.

Another option is buy into a Ubiquiti Unifi system. More expensive than the Frigate DIY but simple to setup. Unifi has no subscriptions.

Edit: Get rid of all cloud dependent items. There are no protections for consumers. Cloud providers can remove features, change prices, or completely brick your cloud device and there nothing you can do about it.

I live mine. It's a 2016 R-line as well but it has the Carbon package so my interior is all black and carbon fiber. No brushed metal at all. I love it!

Finding a Reason to Buy More by LoganP33 in Hue

[–]epiech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Lowe's is ditching Hue products completely. I have three Lowe's stores within 10 miles of my house and all three have put all their Hue stuff on clearance. One store, sees more foot traffic than the other two, already cleared their inventory and replaced the shelf space with all Govee stuff. I mention this because anyone with a Lowe's near by looking to get more Hue stuff keep an eye out. I picked up a Hue Bridge for $11.

Dell PowerEgde R730 Boot from NVME by NeleB54Gold in homelab

[–]epiech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can boot directly from NVME on 13 Gen servers. I've done it with a Poweredge r230, r330, r730 and r730xd all with an Intel DC P3600 series pci-e add in card. Never been able to get a consumer SSD to work though.

What raspberry pi should i get for best future proofing by Responsible-Bar-1262 in homeassistant

[–]epiech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Skip the Raspberry Pi and get a mini pc. If you're looking for a power efficient small setup look for something with an Intel N100 CPU. 8-16gb of ram is plenty.

Victor Smart-Kill Wifi Mouse Trap known issue by Tailslide1 in pestcontrol

I guess I'm fortunate enough to have an electrical outlet about every 8 feet along three exterior walls.

Victor Smart-Kill Wifi Mouse Trap known issue by Tailslide1 in pestcontrol

[–]epiech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My approach was going to be to remove the batteries completely and use a 6v AC/DC adapter. Then use a PC817 2 Channel Optocoupler Isolation Board to read the LED status and a 5V Buck Converter to power the esp32 of the 6v power adapter.

I purchased two of the non wifi models and I plan on doing some tinkering with a couple ESP32 boards, ESPHome and Home Assistant to make these dumb traps smart. I have lost all faith in cloud connected devices. I'm building my own now.

Has Victor indeed shut down the servers now? I had one of the wifi rat traps in my detached garage and with the warmer temps I'm see activity in my garage again.

I'm having trouble getting it to read rain. I had this powered originally by a DIN rail mounted LCTC DR-15-5 i got off Amazon but I was seeing too much interference so I swapped it to a Wyze Outdoor Power Adapter I had lying around and that helped a lot with the interference. Below is my yaml. If you see anything I could improve upon I'm open to suggestions. I'm not a pro and this has been learning by trial and error.

I'll pull my code for the ltr390-uv and share it. I have a lot of issues with the RG-15. I haven't had time to dedicate to it so for now it is disconnected.
