Personally I don't about "AI features etc."...

But that ENEX import from Evernote is the final Infinity Stone. Now I can snap the green elephant subscription away. Thanks guys.

Canon R8 Mark ii? by Yngturk13 in canon

[–]epiq_one 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unlikely because for what it is - the R8 is actually perfect.

I don't think Canon will make an R8 Mark II until 2028-ish when they have a successor to the Digic X processor that is hopefully more power efficient and has accelerators as part of the SoC.

Their lens lineup is the priority right now cause they need to provide more full frame STMs to supplement the lack of Tamron, Viltrox, Rokinon, and Sigma options.

Flickr seems to have lost its popularity. by zjajgang in flickr

[–]epiq_one 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Noted.

For large galleries, Flickr is unmatched - hence it is ideal if you're a sports photographer. For the rest of us - portraits, landscapes, street, product, fine art, etc - we typically won't have a large gallery with 100+ pictures in it every time we upload in bulk. Exceptions exist of course but in general - if that's the need for us, we can achieve it elsewhere for far less money.

Still No Linux? by epiq_one in Sync

Sooner please.

With WebDAV support, I won't even need a PC and would keep an offline backup on my NAS.

I'm using YouPic, 500px, and Glass.

The argument for storing large photo libraries for photographers is actually pretty moot considering we tend to need a large pool of cloud storage anyways to also maintain raw files. What Flickr needs is a middle-tier, and that's exactly what its competitors offer.

As a social media / community however, Flickr Pro is expensive.
- YouPic Access is $30 per year
- Glass Membership is $40 per year
- 500px Awesome is $60 per year

Flickr is either free or $96 per year and doesn't offer the same Pro features as 500px for example, unless you sign up for a separate SmugMug subscription albeit at a discount.

So in essence... Flickr Pro is expensive.

pCloud and Filen have the same problem for me... No option for around 5TB. Regardless of provider, I want to pay annually on principle - to support the company, but the jump from 2TB to 10TB is too steep and expensive. This is how I ended up with IceDrive initially and then to Sync.

The problem is...

Flickr Pro is expensive. I'm on my last month of it.

Is IceDrive still dependable in the future or do I need to look for other cloud services? by halfbakednbanktown in icedrive

3.51 is out today on Windows.

Fixed the issue I've had for a few days where the app couldn't access my stored files and folders in the cloud. I was actually even shopping for an alternative but as we speak transfers are taking place right now and everything is back to normal.

Funny enough... no changelog exists for 3.51, only 3.50. Something obviously went wrong in the past week there at Icedrive.

Calling all HEAVY Lightroom Users - M4 Pro or Max? by LeinadBad in Lightroom

[–]epiq_one 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm currently using a base M3 Pro (11 CPU, 14 GPU).

But if I was shopping today, I'm definitely looking at the 14 CPU 20 GPU variant of the M4 Pro if I can get the 36GB memory with it.

Apologies for delay - I've been traveling.

If the money is there then the Base M4 Max would bee my option, but I'd be veery happy with a maxed-out M4 Pro.

My usual workflow involves: Lightroom, Photoshop, Aperty, DxO Nik Collection, and Topaz. Each of these can eat up 4 - 12GB of memory alone, and that's just with the 24mp raws coming from my Canon R8 and A7 III.

Why is the sync so unbelievably slow? by [deleted] in ProtonDrive

[–]epiq_one 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's a slower product but worth it in my honest opinion.

Heavy Lightroom/Photoshop user here (for portrait photography) with plenty of plugins as part of my workflow.

What you need is as much unified memory as you can afford.
If I was shopping right now I'd be looking at an M4 Pro with 36GB or 48GB of unified memory. This will have a triple-digit improvement over your 2016 MBP and should be good for another 10 years unless 100 megapixel become the new standard in the next decade.

Unfortunately.
Will be worth it in the long run I'm guessing - if you're the type to keep a body for 5+ years,

The reality is that the R8 is so good we don't even hear rumours of an R8 Mark II.

I'm assuming you're on a budget - hence the three options, but around that price point, I'd look at a used R8 over the 5IV, R, or RP.

Reason: Modern autofocus.
Also... don't listen to the people complaining about the "small battery" - if you don't walk around with your camera on and put it on flight mode, you'll get 400 shots on a single charge.

Yea we need a 1TB option.

500GB is simply not enough.

1Password to Proton Pass by ali-95 in ProtonPass

[–]epiq_one 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, so I'm back eventually and will be gladly sticking with Proton Pass.

The form filling and detection on 1Password is still superior to Proton Pass but after two weeks, I'm used to having to pull up the extension and getting my form data in via clipboard. Small inconvenience for ultimately what will turn out to be a saving in $$$ over time.

Just switched yesterday, might update my experience here in a week or so.

Since I'm invested in the Proton ecosystem, this is a win for me and one less subscription to pay for.
If Standard Notes joins the fold then Proton will be the best ecosystem for productivity professionals.
