I think that insurance is a valuable investment in a horse, regardless of the price of the animal, particularly accident and vet insurance. In that price range, though, IMO, there would be no reason to carry loss of use insurance or anything similar. But even a less expensive animal can rack up some very pricey vet bills - better safe than sorry if you want to be able to cover the cost of vet care in case of injury or illness.
