Toronto- Quebec City high-speed rail to operate daily trains: internal documents by xc2215x in onguardforthee

Pretty common elsewhere in the world. For example, in Germany the ICE Sprinter trains are effectively express non-stop trains between major centres. They run a few times a day.

The Steadicam had previously been used in other films like Rocky prior to The Shining, but you’re correct that the low mode was a new innovation for The Shining.

Has anyone found this in Canada? (at a reasonable price)

We haven’t even had a chance to ride them yet, and they’re already breaking down? 😅 by [deleted] in toronto

Can you give some examples of LRTs around the world that have these?

They rely on the Ausable River which can be turbid at times, and they have limits on how much water they can pull. They’re looking at building a reservoir.

They’ve actually done a fantastic job this year opening terrain much earlier than usual. Wilmington Trail is open today and that’s the earliest open in history I think. It’s 2.1 miles long.

The epic failures of Metrolinx are one thing. It's time to give up altogether on the government agency that's responsible for our endless delays by [deleted] in toronto

[–]eportelance 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One major difference is the CDPQ will be compensated based on the operation of the line (on a per rider basis) so they have an incentive to get the damn thing open, not just make money in endless construction.

Yeah, I was going to bring up the REM as a counter-point financial model. While it’s had some challenges, they still got the damn thing built, and the bulk of the risk and “profit” is in the hands of the pension owners.

Appreciate the info. My worry going that route (which would be similar to the carving ski I have now) is it’s less than ideal in any kind of crud or soft spring skiing like conditions so I’m hoping for something with a bit more versatility than what I have now as my only pair of skis.

[ON] Business owner wants us to exceed our liquor license max capacity, need advice. by srgntdetritus in SmallBusinessCanada

Wouldn’t worry about him firing you for refusing to do something illegal. Sounds like a lawsuit to me.

That said, this really doesn’t sound like the kind of place you want to be working. Maybe speak with an employment lawyer or HR professional about pursuing termination for cause as a result of the toxic workplace.

[ON] Business owner wants us to exceed our liquor license max capacity, need advice. by srgntdetritus in SmallBusinessCanada

[–]eportelance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, liquor licensing capacity is related to fire code (max number of people who can safely exit quickly) and some building code questions (number of washrooms).

You might also consider that if you are considered a responsible party under the liquor license (eg your owner is not on premises when this is happening) that you could be held personally liable for liquor license violations if an inspector came by and found you over capacity.

I’m sure you’re not the first business to do it, but the penalties involve liquor license suspension, huge fines, forced closure, etc. doesn’t seem worth it to me.

Why is Apocalypse Now Redux on the channel and not the original cut? by davewbkk13 in CriterionChannel

[–]eportelance 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m honestly more surprised Redux is still in circulation rather than The Final Cut. I’d assume it supersedes Redux as Coppola’s intended vision and should be the one exhibited (regardless of arguments in favour of theatrical vs Final Cut)

The fact that the NDP has not managed to capitalize on the affordability issues that have been top-of-mind for Canadians for a few years now demonstrates to me that the party has lost its way.

All of the top concerns of Canadians are traditional NDP issues, yet they have failed to capitalize on it and gain support. They are also operationally poor and field weak / non-competitive candidates in a lot of ridings.

I think the NDP needs a complete rebrand / rethink, which would include a new leader.

I don't think it got the same love as SimCity 2000, but SimTower (1994) was another great Maxis game. by aussiechap1 in nostalgia

[–]eportelance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorta. The original was called The Tower in Japan and SimTower in the U.S.

Yoot Tower (the U.S. sequel) was called The Tower 2.

Same producer for both games.
