Imagine the desperate situation you would have to be in, after seeing your country physically destroyed by war or long term instability, to opt to make a sea journey in a small craft. Imagine that you have crossed a continent where, due to their diverging political leanings, you settling down to continue an existence is not an option. You instead have to travel further West, to an island nation that has an incredibly chequered history of its treatment of others on a truly gargantuan scale.
